章 8: Chapter 8 Beast
Immediately everyone stopped their cheering and stared at the marines who showed up speechlessly. They simply did not know what to say or how to react to that accusation. Deceived? Who deceived who exactly? Even a child could understand that I was the one who had helped them in their time of need and did not use or do any tricks to gain their favor.
Seeing their actions in person I couldn't help but grow frustrated at them. The main reason is because of the strength of their captain which is obviously stronger than the pirate captain that I had just faced, but only just a bit stronger though. However, this is enough as their numbers were a bit bigger than the pirate's group.
" Deceive? Who exactly did I deceive? Where were you all this time? Even if I did so call deceive these people, in the end, I chased away those pirates for good, haven't I."
As if he didn't hear what I had said, he ignored me and answered, " Silence! You are someone on this island disturbing the peace here and only fought to gain favor with the people on this island. For this you will be arrested and tried."
The marines at his side began to walk forward, although with a solemn face, as if they knew that this was unreasonable, but they could not refuse the order of someone with higher authority than them.
The crowd of people hesitated before looking at them coming with a determined look and stood in their spot, blocking their path.
Even though I have only been here a few days, it was as if I was here for much a longer time as I interacted with them and played often with the kids. Driving away the pirates was something that pushed them to accept me even further as they have finally seen the strength that I possessed and instead of using it to boss everyone around or wreak havoc on their peaceful little island but simply acted like any normal person was. Inside the Grand Line where pirates were numerous coming and going, if the marines won't protect them then who would. They did not know how to fight or possess the strength to protect themselves against the stronger foes. Sure, they knew that I wouldn't be staying here forever but here and now, when there was trouble, like real trouble when Sarah was in danger, I had showed up and defended them.
The marines didn't do much and just chased them away and demanded money from them. Who was more trustworthy can easily be seen between the two.
However, as I saw this scene, my heart was truly warmed by their actions, but I knew that if I let them block their path, it would only lead to more trouble.
I gently pushed my way through the crowd and stood in front of them, smiled as I looked back and said, " There's no need for you guys to go through so much trouble because of me. Thank you for letting me stay and for treating me normally."
I walked forward preparing myself as I think of what to do. I can simply fly away and would never be seen again. I can literally go anywhere I want so long as I wanted to. If I fight, then unless I kill all of them and the people stay silent about it then none of this can ever be known.
However, if and when I do get found out, there would be a bounty on my head. I will then be forced to turn myself in or live a lawless life.
Run or fight... Well running has never been what I was to do was it?
I then stepped forward, " Come, catch me if you can."
I bent my knees as my wings spread outwards as I leaned forward. With just one flap of my wings, I immediately set off at high speed, knocking down the marine grunts along the way and appeared in front of the marine captain within just a few seconds, whom the latter stuttered backwards, not expecting me to be so much stronger than them.
Before he can properly react, my fist had already landed on his fist and sent him flying. The remaining marines now hesitated to make a move seeing that I attend on fighting back.
The marine captain slowly got up as blood poured out from his nose. " Now you've done it. For resisting arrest, you are now a wanted fugitive. You will regret making a move against me."
However, I did not need to listen to more of his nonsense. If I have to live my life fighting against injustice like this and combat against corrupt authorities and lawless individuals then that's fine with me.
I didn't listen to anymore nonsense of his and landed another solid punch on his face which sent him flying all the way back, crashing into his ship that was stationed at the harbor.
Seeing me easily beating their captain, the marines didn't know what to do at this point. Fighting this individual was purely suicide for them if he wanted to kill them, they knew that I could do it easily.
They simply started to run and retrieve the fallen and unconscious captain and checked to make sure if he was still alive.
As I thought that this would be the end, I could already see another marine ship that had suddenly appeared.
However, this marine ship was not like the marine ship that the captain was in. It was much bigger and had a weird dog shaped head with a bone in its mouth. It quickly docked on the harbor as an large old man with a dog shaped hat on his head. This individual although looked to be an old man, did not look weak or out of shape. In fact, he looked particularly strong and from the aura that he gave off, he was outrageously strong.
Although old, the vigor and energy he possesses was unlike I have ever seen. Sure Enel had a large amount of energy to but that was due to his devil fruit and it looked chaotic and unrefined. However, this individual who stood on the edge of the boat had a huge aura of refined and controlled energy and strength.
Just looking at him made me sweat bullets as I knew this person was stronger than me. Not only him to, but there was also a strange skinny looking man with a hat on, carrying a sword on his side, that looked particularly strong too.
" Hooh, what do we have here. I just got back from vacation, and this is what I see?"
However, I did not answer him. I was still debating on whether I should run or not. I don't even know if I would be able to get away from this man.
However, I don't know what would happen to the people on this island anymore because I did not finish the job and the unconscious marine could easily spur up some lies and cause trouble to the people of this island. Furthermore, I don't know if the person if front of me is a corrupt marine or not.
Therefore, I had no other choice but to fight it out. My fighting intent sky rockets as I amplify my strength to the max, increasing my energy and enhancing my strength by 20.
The old man marine with the dog hat on his head looked at me with interest and laughed, "Gahahaha. You are quite strong aren't you."
Before I could make the first move, with a simple blink, he had already appeared before me with his giant fist that looked as hard as iron coming straight at me.
Barely having enough time to put a proper guard up, my arms barely made it as I crossed them, blocking the fist but it did little as I was sent flying in which I responded with a flap of my wings as I flew upwards, both decreasing the momentum of the blowback and avoiding houses being destroyed in the process.
" Hooh, those wings aren't just for show huh. You must be from somewhere in the sky islands."
Hearing those words and feeling his overwhelming strength, I knew that this was no ordinary marine.
With my air advantage, maybe this won't be so much of a problem if I use hit and run tactics. I flew about a few feet higher as I flew towards the direction of the sun. Once I reached a good standard height, I swooped downwards towards the old marine as my speed gradually increased and producing greater momentum as I get closer and closer.
Once I reached just a few feet away from my target, I quickly spun in midair as I gather just a bit more speed and launched a kick straight to his head whom the latter easily blocked it with his arms as the ground broke under him.
Just as I was about to fly away, the old marine had already grabbed onto my feet quickly as he grabbed firmly and threw me across the ground crashing into several buildings.
Getting up slowly, I looked around me as I stood in wreckage. This has gone far enough. So be it, I'll become an enemy of the marines. So be it, I guess I'll become a pirate. If it means that I can get away safely and stop causing problems to this island.
I focused my energy into a sword in my right hand. This is my judgement sword. With every cut, I will consume some of the foe's energy and I will only grow stronger and stronger as the fight continues.
I immediately dashed forwards, enraged by this man's strength and reckless attacks that causes harm around his own vicinity.
I swung the sword as his crossed path with his bare fists several times as somehow, I wasn't able to cut into his flesh. Sure enough, he has armament haki. Unfortunately, I was not able to train this aspect yet and have only unlocked observation haki.
We clash for several times but it seems like he hasn't even been going all out as he continued to beat me in every clash wrecking the island more and more. It came to the point where I who has never run out of energy or stamina since I received this devil fruit powers was starting to see my limits. Of course I can consume the energy from the life forms around me to regain strength and stamina but it would only cause trouble for the island as it won't help me much to gain an advantage in this fight.
With a final confrontation which led to my energy sword being shattered and blown back to the middle of the town. I looked up as the old man started at me with a smile and walked over to me.
" What is that all you have? I haven't even warmed up yet."
Just before he approached me and was about to grab me, Sarah rushed out of the dispersed crowd who were hiding from the battle and stood in front of me, she raised her arms as if to block the old man from continuing forward.
Sarah with tears in her eyes, " Stop right there, you bad old man. Mr. Angel did nothing wrong. It was that bad marine over there. He demanded money from us while doing nothing while pirates came and went as they please destroying our home."
It was then the old man stopped in his path and looked backwards towards the still unconscious marine captain and his fellow marine soldiers that was on their ship.
It was also then, when Warner, the village chief, walked out and confronted the old man.
Warner, " That's right Vice-admiral Garp. I know I called you here to help because of time where you told me that I can call you for help in return for helping to save your fellow marine's life but what is this. You had attacked our guest and caused such a wreckage in our little island."
As my consciousness begin to fade, my last thoughts while looking at this overpowered old man. Garp? Vice-admiral? This strong old man was Garp whom Gan Fall had mentioned?
