章 7: Day 7-8: The Boss

-Day 7-

For the third time, I woke up to Complexia's food as breakfast but was surprised to find that she made food for the others as all, and so I gave her headpats for her work, which seemed to make her happy.

I looked at everyone, and they were also just waking up, and we all started eating except Complexia who just stood on my right side watching with what seemed to be a sense of pride.

Once I was done eating I went outside to check things and just as I suspected it was raining. That being the case, I decided to change things up a bit. I went back to the girls and explained my plans.

"Since it's raining outside, I want to focus on other things. Complexia, I want you to can keep investigating the salt situation. Goburia, you can focus on training the new girls. While I will go out to get more food for tomorrow." I announced.

"Yes, Master." Complexia was the first to agree and simply got up and left.

"I don't mind working with the girls and all, but don't you think it's a bit dangerous to just go out at a time like this? You might get sick or worse." Goburia expressed her concerns.

"Not a big deal. I'll be fine. You should know I'm not that easy to take down." I respond. As I'm not really worried about getting sick, one I don't even know if goblins get sick but they probably do, and two it doesn't really matter since I'm immune to all diseases thanks to my regeneration. Healing factor is broken like that.

"Whatever, if you come back alive, don't say I didn't warn you." She went a bit tsun and pretended not to care. Cute.

"I'll bring you all a few souvenirs." I say before leaving a tsun Goburia with the other two confused.

Once I left the cave I began searching for a target and even though I know it's dangerous to move alone, the only creature I don't have any chance of escaping from. The Hind bears are most likely not roaming on a rainy day, especially that Red bear variant, so I can take the risk. Plus, the assassin job makes it harder for others to detect my presence. I tested this in my sparring matches with the girls.

From then I began searching until I finally found three horned rabbits, which I killed sneakily. Then kept their bodies in my inventory.

Then I continued to make my way deeper into the forest where I found a group of 7 Armoured Tanukis, which I just came to and picked up before turning the first one over and stabbing it to death. The rest tried to attack me and pounce at me, but their attack did little damage and that was only for a second before all of it disappeared. It was the first time I noticed that my regeneration was actually slower than it used to be, but I'll find a way to recover that.

[You have killed an Armored Tanuki(Rank F+)]

One by one I killed all the Tanukis who for some reason tried to fight rather than running away. Once I was done, I kept their bodies in my inventory.

After that, I continued to go deeper and by a stroke of pure luck, after roaming for a while longer I found a Night Viper nest! And there were about 14 or so of them in there. Thanks to my [Night Vision], the weather didn't mess with my sight too much.

What's dangerous about Night Vipers is their poison and their fast jump attack, but none of that represents a danger to me, so Jackpot.

Just like with the Tanukis, since I was alone I was not worried about being hit or hurt and just killed the Vipers one by one. Some of them tried to escape but I was much faster. I was bit and their poison entered my body multiple times but it meant nothing as I would be fully healed in a few seconds at worse. Once again, as the battle ended I kept their bodies in my inventory.

Having done that, I proceeded with my journey and eventually found another cave, so approached cautiously being as careful as I could. Once I was close enough, I saw the bats inside resting on the ceiling and decided to go in.

Despite me no longer trying to be silent or hide my presence they didn't react.

"Come at me, flying rats!" I shouted alarming all the bats who got agitated and began flying around surrounding me.

There were likely more than 50 around and I once again slowly but surely dwindled their numbers while taking minimal damage. I was able to take down 34 of them, but the rest ran away.

As the levels sank in, I felt a great power in my body. It was as if I could just beat anyone with ease, but I understood that it was just power rust and that I was not that strong.

"It's been enough for now. I'll go back now." I decide as I keep all the Bat corpses in my inventory.

I then made my way to the goblin cave. Unfortunately on the way back, I didn't have any more lucky encounters and soon reached my destination.

Before entering the cave I choose a few of the monster bodies to carry in hand as I went in. To my surprise, nobody took note of my presence and didn't seem to know I was there. Something I attribute to my Assassin job.

Once I reached the girls, who were at this point all having dinner together. I placed a night viper besides Goburia, an armored tanuki for Gobumi, and fem Kichi. I'll have to give the rest to Complexia so that she can make something delicious.

Being down placing the 'souvenirs' I brought, I sat on my place and everyone looked at me like they had just seen a ghost.

"Welcome back, Master." Complexia was the one to break the awkward silence of the moment.

"What?! When did you get here?!" Goburia questioned seeming legitimately shocked at my presence.

Fem Kichi just looked confused while Gobumi looked fascinated by the situation in some form of admiration.

"Don't think too much, you'll get a headache. Just eat what I bought you three." I say to the shocked trio.

(I have a lot more stored in my inventory and you can take out as much as you need.) I tell Complexia through our connection. Honestly, I'm not sure if it's psionic or spiritual or something else but at least I can communicate with her from wherever and whenever I feel like it.

(Understood, thank you, Master. Also, how was your hunting trip?) Complexia asked.

(You definitely know the answer to that question.) I reply.

(I only know that you killed many monsters and leveled up, but you can still tell me the specifics of how.) She retorted.

(Fine... So I was...) I began retelling what happened while skipping the minor details, not that it was much. I just went around killing monsters.

(While you were a bit reckless I guess having regeneration as potent as yours justifies that. Oh, and I managed to find the location of the salt rock, but we would have to mine into the cave to get to them.) She expressed her thoughts on my grinding method before giving me good news.

(That's great, we'll get to mining once I take over this place.) I respond. I could already do it with my current strength honestly. Just the fact that nobody noticed me coming in is enough proof of that, but I'll keep focusing on grinding until I'm a hobgoblin and see what happens, after all, there's a chance of getting a blessing when you rank up and I want to see what I'll get.

From then, I eat dinner with the girls and then went to sleep. That was how my 7th day in this world ended.

-Day 8-

Upon waking up, I'm met with yet another one of Complexia's breakfast meals. I gave her a morning headpat and not long after everyone else slowly woke up, and we all ate breakfast, except Complexia who has the habit of eating while everyone is still asleep.

Feeling satisfied after a great meal, I began thinking of how I'll go about hunting. Unless I want to let everyone know about my regeneration which I plan to do once I'm a hobgoblin, I can't hunt with the girls since it's too limiting. It'll be best if I keep hunting on my own just until I rank up, and then I can go back to working with my party.

"Hey... I just wanted to thank you for giving me those snakes, yesterday. You didn't have to." Goburia came to me and bowed in thanks. Something I was not expecting, but I guess our agreement giving her some loot privileges was only in effect so long as we worked as a party, so me giving her the snakes is a gift, rather than part of an obligation.

"That was nothing. We're all part of the same team, after all." I replied.

"Anyway, you're doing great and seem to be growing faster than me. So I don't really see a point in staying as the leader, and believe it would be for the best if you took the role." She proposed.

She wants me to lead? Already? I thought she would be against the idea, but I guess I was wrong.

"While I don't mind, I can't take that role right now. But maybe in a day or two." I responded. While I planned to lead from the get-go, it's not the best since right now I want to focus on ranking up.

Goburia looked at me confused by my temporary refusal, but just took it and didn't even ask why.

"Anyway, you'll have to go with the girls without me today. Just do me a favor and keep the new girls alive. It will be a waste if we let them die before they can be of use after we provided for them." I request.

"Got it. You have a point. But where are you going? Tired after yesterday?" She agreed to my request before questioning me.

"No, not really. I'm just going to be working on a special surprise to help the team." I keep it vague.

"Well, after yesterday's souvenirs, you left me curious about this. It better be good or I'll get you on our next training session." She retorted with a certain air of playfulness to her. It seems that she's warming up to me.

She soon left with the other girls as they went out to hunt. Having a moment alone, I decided to check my relationships before going out myself.

It all seemed to progress in the right direction, except for my biological parents in this world. My father didn't seem to be aware of my existence, while my mother was growing hate of sorts, towards the goblin race as a whole... But can you really blame her? I was surprised she didn't absolutely hate my existence completely from the get-go.

Letting that thought wander, for now, I focus on what's crucial right now, which is me ranking up and becoming a hobgoblin.

Once I was done rearranging my thoughts, I went out of the goblin cave and went into the forest once more. I easily moved unnoticed thanks to my assassin Job.

On my way, I found horned rabbits and killed them, but it didn't do much for me, as I had expected. The level of the enemies I had to face to gain something at this point had increased and horned rabbits no longer cut it.

This continued as I went in and found mostly horned rabbits and the occasional armored tanuki, as they were much more common and easier to come by. Eventually, I found a camp of Orcs, 15 of them to be more precise.

They were scattered all over the place with basic poorly made tents as their rooms, and I used that combined with my newfound stealth to assassinate them one by one. Until there were only four of them left in the camp.

Obviously, by now, they were aware that someone was attacking and killing them from the shadows so, they went defensive and were acting with much more caution than before.

That behavior wasn't as beneficial to them since now that they were just four, I was no longer worried about being overwhelmed with numbers. So, I simply jumped at the nearest of the Orc's back and used the small horn to pierce his eyes until he was dead. The others were shocked by my entrance and brutality, to say the least, but I didn't stop there and attacked the second one who tried to parry my attack with his sword, but I easily flipped on him instead hit him with a kick on the back of his knee before using the opening to stab him through the eye and kill him.

Normally I wouldn't care too much about aiming for something as small as the eyes, but Orcs have tough skin for something on the level of a small horn, so it would be too much of a chore to pierce them in an area that isn't as weak as the eyes. Having caused quite a commotion with my actions, the two last Orcs weren't about to let me go scot-free, and both attacked from opposite sides.

To test my regeneration a little more and to give myself a good position to stab at least one of them in the eye, I let them both lend their attacks as one of them pierced my stomach and the other chopped off my free arm. During this moment, I took the chance and killed the Orc that pierced my stomach with another eye pierced. As the last Orc looked at me turn to him with my mad smile covered in the pain, I felt from their attacks. It came at me once again and swing its sword with all its might, but I was able to avoid it and used this opening to jump on it and pierced the brains of the last Orc In the camp.

Getting up after killing the Orc, I noticed that I had two choices regarding my lost arm. Grow a new one, or reattach the old one. For now, I chose to pick up the fallen arm and reattached it. Even if my body was above what a normal goblin could ever dream of, I was still a normal goblin if we ignored the half-human part of me. There are limits to what this body can do even if I'm high level, which is part of the reason I wanted to rank up as fast as possible.

"Hahaha! Finally! And it's just about time to go back and sleep. Tomorrow, the real fun starts." I then begin to store the last four Orc bodies in my inventory just as had done with all the rest.

Once done, I went back to the goblin cave while ignoring all the distractions. I soon got home and got in without paying much attention to anyone and simply went to sleep in my usual spot.
