章 10: Mishap

Jack knew that he was being followed constantly since the day of the incident and those people were keeping an eye on his every movement. He even knew that he would not get the chance to leave the country before those people killed him and his family. But having no other option he still took the chance. Doing something was at least better than living in constant fear and waiting for them to be killed. It did not matter if he was alone, but he had an old mother, a wife, and his two little kids to protect. Even if he had a one-in-a-million chance of surviving, he would do that. If he could just get to the airport before they could catch up to him, he was ready to give it his all. So, when Kai said that Rain had the power to save them, it elated him as he saw a flicker of hope which may increase his and his family's chance of survival.

Jack first sized Rain up and down then looked at Elliot. If possible, he did not want to leave the country either. It was his home. The place where he grew up. Anticipation filled him as he asked, "Are…. Are you telling the truth? She… She can protect us?"

"Of course, I will protect you. But only if you tell us everything that you know" Rain said in a slow but gritty voice. Confidence oozing out of her.

Jack gave them another look as if looking for any sign of a lie. But under their domineering aura and gaze he dared not to doubt them and began probing his pants pockets the next second. After clumsily searching for a while, he took out a small pen drive and handed it to Elliot with shaky hands. "This… This pen drive contains… It contains everything that you are looking for. This is all I know. Please take it and protect my family. I cannot live with fear anymore." At last, he decided to believe them.

He almost kneeled before them for coming to his rescue. It was better than vainly trying to flee the country with his family when he already knew the outcome.

Rain and Elliot looked at each other and nodded their head. Rain fished out some cash and handed it to Jack " Go and check in to Hotel Paradise along with your family for now. The security there is top-notch as many government officials and VIPs stay there whenever they visit this city. You will be safe there for now. I will send someone to move you all to a safer place by tomorrow."

Jack wasted no time in deciding. The hotel that the girl mentioned indeed could save him from those people. He would have already gone there if he had the money. Now that Rain gave him that, he took the cash immediately and ran towards his car. As he took the driver's seat, he looked at the man and lady with grateful gaze and headed towards the direction where Hotel Paradise was located. He had no time to waste when he knew that he was being followed at each step. Reaching the hotel was easier than reaching the airport without being caught by those people.

After obtaining the pen drive, Elliot and Rain wasted no time and headed back towards their city to hand over this newly found evidence to Andrea, totally unaware of the impending danger.

"I did not know that you were such a great actor Ms. Erena. You really put up a great show back there." Elliot said as he accelerated.

"You were not bad either. I only uttered those words to threaten him, but you instantly grasped the situation there. It was as if you could read his mind about someone threatening his family's life." Rain said in her usual monotonous voice as she looked at him.

"It was not much. I reckoned that if he was leaving in such a haste it could only mean that he was afraid of something. I just had a wild guess that they were threatening his family's life which actually turned out to be the truth." Elliot said looking ahead on the road. "By the way, now that we have promised to save him, how are we supposed to do it? Those people threatening him seem to be dangerous."

Rain shrugged "I will ask Andrea for help. Being in Vision for so long, she has gained quite a few connections that can help us to ensure their safety. She will be more than happy to help….."

"Screech…."

Their car drifted for a moment and then abruptly stopped in the middle of the road making a screeching sound.

"Are you okay Ms. Erena?" Elliot asked in an eerily calm voice as he looked at Rain after he suddenly hit on the brakes.

"Yeah. What happened?!" Rain asked straightening herself. She was alert as she could sense danger looming around her.
