Adeline’s POV
“Zale,” I had been trying to get the man’s attention for a solid minute now. “Zale,” I called to him more firmly. Only when I touched his arm with my hand did Zale look up at me finally.
“I’m fine, you didn’t have to bring me all the way here.”
“She crossed the line,” he seethed.
“She’s just… acting out.”
“She’s a grown woman, she should have known better than to try something with you.” I could tell he was angry by the way he was shaking, and I understood it. We weren’t together in the public eye, so it didn’t necessarily upset Zale that she had embarrassed me at the party in front of all of those people.
But in private, and to the people that mattered, we were together. And Leona knew that too, so by shaming me in front of Zale’s guests she had shamed him. I knew the alpha in him was struggling not to go out there and reprimand her, to assert his authority over her in front of all those people.
