Damien tapped his fingers on the armrest of the chair. "Why did you do it, Josef?" Damien asked and he finally stopped tapping. Lifting his eyes, he glanced at Josef, who was on his floor on his knees.
"Forgive me, Your Highness. It was a foolish mistake," Josef apologized, keeping his head low. His voice quivered in fear. Josef didn't imagine he would be caught and dragged to the palace.
"I didn't ask for an apology," Damien said. "Why did you send men after Suzanne? What was your true intention?" He further clarified to Josef.
"Because Miss Barnard did not marry me. She made me feel humiliated," Josef replied. The bitterness in his tone was evidence of his frustration. "Your Highness, I have a reputation in the society. But Miss Barnard destroyed it," he affirmed and gazed at the stern-faced General, who brought him there. Josef then lowered his head and again started begging for forgiveness.
