"Where do you think you guys are going?"
Homelander questions darkly, his eyes glowing red as the team is about to leave with Maeve and Ryan, making them stop right in their tracks with fear in their eyes.
I can hear their silent gulps, and their increased heart rate and my senses can pick up their deep-rooted fear of the man I'm currently facing even though they are doing their best to hide it.
Only Maeve is looking at him defiantly and the amount of hate in her eyes is...really something else. Ryan is beside her just shaking in fear; Homelander has really gotten inside the poor kid's head.
Let's just get this over with.
"He can't do you guys anything while I'm here. Maeve grab Ryan and leave now, it's about to get messy here."
I assert as Homelander's attention turns to me.
Maeve nods and grabs the scared kid and the next moment she and the squad start running away.
"Stay back!"
Homelander bellows and uses his [Heat Vision] towards them as they run but with a wave of my hand, a grayish concave barrier reflects the beam towards a nearby building, dividing it diagonally and making it tumble.
"I'm sad John, I thought after finally seeing your crush for a long time you won't think about anything again?"
I mock in a tone that makes him grit his teeth in annoyance as he faces me with his glowing eyes.
"Don't call me John! That's not my name anymore."
He announces with pride as more civilians and supes gather on the streets to watch our altercation. The brave ones even take out their phones to record.
Let's humor him a bit.
"Is that so? So what should I call you then."
I ask as I slowly ascend to his level.
"I'm God-King Homelander now. I'm not the person you once knew Virgil, I've ascended. Now that you're here, I finally have the chance to eliminate the last obstacle in my way."
Homelander says arrogantly. His smirk, eyes, and mind show me how much he thinks this is true.
This is fucking hilarious, not gonna lie.
"This is the funniest thing I've heard today. Like really, you just took a drug I developed which by the way should have killed you and now you think you're hot shit. You're nothing John. You're just a bad product."
I insult him with a mocking smile and this silences the entire place.
Hearing this, Homelander's face morphs into a scowl as he breathes in and out with the intensity of his glowing eyes increasing in tandem with his breathing.
My [Hyper Awareness] is making me feel the air around him vibrate and heat up intensely as his anger rises and a smile can't help but come on my face upon seeing this.
"Seraph start Phase Two."
I mutter silently into my small earpiece as I pick up the faint shift in his body position.
'You're good to go.'
Seraph replies.
Good, it's time to start my tests.
He will attack in three...two..on-
<Boom!>
With an explosion, he dashes and appears in front of me with a heavy punch aiming for my head.
<Boom!>
I immediately block with my arms crossed in front of me but the force of the punch sends me whistling through Vought Tower at high speed.
A second later, he suddenly appears above me and hits me with a double-axe smash that sends me barrelling onto the ground.
<Bang!>
The road collapses as my body sinks into it, creating a small crater as the shockwave sends the cars and people flying.
"Wow, that was something."
I groan as I rise from the crater with no injuries, my clothes perfectly fine and I don't even feel anything.
Super Durability check.
"I'm surprised you're still alive, it seems you've gotten tough. I guess I should stop holding back."
Homelander mocks arrogantly as he arrives above me.
His biceps and triceps suddenly bulge as he clenches his fist, reels it back, and swings it towards me.
<Boom!>
A large column of pressurized air bursts forth from his fist and explodes upon hitting me, sending me further down in the ground as the road starts cracking and breaking.
Tch, this actually stings. It seems this is the current limit of my durability, any more and I'll get hurt... But this is amazing.
"Test one is over, let's start with test two."
I announce inside the now deep crater and blast out of it at speeds that blow everything away, catching him off guard.
I hit him with a left hook jab that contains all of my strength and this sends him flying through the numerous buildings in front of him.
I follow his body through the air and since I'm faster, he is unable to find time to stabilize himself before I hit him with a front kick that sends him further into the sky.
My perception is currently in slow motion so to me his body is moving at a slow pace so I move in front of him and after concentrating a lot of strength on my left leg, making the muscles on it bulge, I blast him with a strong axe kick.
<Boom!>
His body shoots towards Central Park like a rocket and hits the grassy ground like a meteor, creating a large crater in the ground with shockwaves that thoroughly devastate the surroundings.
Thankfully no one's here.
Descending, I stop a few meters above the dust-filled crater and watch as Homelander stands up with a fuming bruised face but his eyes tell a different story.
They show fear.
Haaaa, this is so satisfying. I'm finally able to hurt this Superman wannabe with my bare fists. At long last, my body isn't a weakness.
Hehe, this is so exciting.
"Don't be afraid John, after all, we have more tests to do and I hope you can keep up till then."
I grin sadistically and this makes him subconsciously take a step back.
