After Odysseus paid for the food they ordered, he and Skylar went out to his truck. They got in, drove off and left the town. They were headed to the city, the airport to be specific. They had to catch a flight to Los Angeles. A few hours later, they reached the airport. They bought their tickets for the next flight to Los Angeles.
They soon got on their flight and flew off to the city of angles. The plane landed in an airport in Los Angeles at night after flying for some hours. The passengers got off and retrieved their things. Skylar had nothing to retrieve since he brought nothing along. He and Odysseus left the airport where they finally parted ways. Skylar had to borrow some cash from Odysseus since he had none left in his wallet. He hailed a cab and drove to the nearest motel.
Only then did he realize that he had to ask Odysseus for cash to pay for taxi fare, how was he going to pay to get a room at the motel. Now he was regretting not going with Odysseus. At least he could have stayed the night at his place and then tried to make some cash tomorrow.
Skylar started to rack his brain. How was he going to get the money to pay for a room at the motel. In the end, he had four choices; ""beg", "spend the night as a homeless person", "make money; legally" and "make money; illegally".
The first option was immediately crossed of. There was no way he was going to beg. Even if he did beg, he was sure he wouldn't get enough to pay for a room.
"Spend the night as a homeless person" was also immediately crossed off his list. He couldn't even sleep in a forest, how was he going to sleep on the streets. That is unless he chose to not sleep at all. Nonetheless, that option was crossed off.
That came to the third option; "make money legally". This option seemed more of a drag to Skylar. How the hell was he going to make money legally when he had nothing on him. And he was definitely not going to go job hunting at night. He was convinced he wouldn't find one this late at night.
All that was left was "make money: illegally". This option seemed more of a drag to Skylar than the previous one. How was he going to make money illegally. He could try to sell some drugs but where was he going to find the drugs. He had no skills in pickpocketing either so he would have to "snatch 'n' run".
So it was decided. He would grab some purses and wallets and run off with them.
He turned around to pursue his "nightly endeavor" when a thought struck him. He was in LA. And if he had watched enough detective tv shows back in his original universe, there was probably a drug deal going on somewhere. All he had to do was search for likely places and hope Lady luck still had a thing for him.
So, with this thought in mind, he began searching for places where he found suitable to carry out an illegal drug deal. What was the worst that could happen, right? And it's not like he could stay dead for long. Even if it didn't go well, he could always go back to his fourth option.
After a few minutes of searching, he came across a warehouse behind a really shady alley. He went inside through the back door and cautiously creeped around.
"Did you bring the money?", a deep and raspy male voice said.
It seemed that lady luck still had a thing for Skylar as he started hearing voices from further inside the warehouse. He almost squealed in excitement but he restrained himself and made his way towards the direction of the voice.
"Yes. Now let me see the artifact", another voice said. This one also belonged to a male. The voice was deep and surprisingly gentle.
It seems it's not a drug deal. Skylar thought in his head. It seemed that someone was buying some kind of artifact. It didn't really matter to him what was going on. All that mattered was that he got his hands on the cash.
Sky saw the back of a man, hiding behind some crates, watching the ongoing deal. He immediately knew that the man was a goon of either of the men making the exchange. Using almost ninja like stealth, he sneaked up behind the man and caught in him a chokehold. He covered the man's mouth to keep him from making any sounds.
The man struggled to get out of Skylar's hold but couldn't and slowly lost consciousness. Seeing this, Skylar laid his body down gently on the ground. He knew that to make things less chaotic, he needed to take out the other goons hiding around.
Skylar closed his eyes and took in a deep breath to control his breathing and heart rate. He focused his mind and concentrated on his sense of hearing. He tuned everything out and fully concentrated. And as if his hearing had been supercharged, he started to hear things that an ordinary person wouldn't. He could now hear the cricket outside, the rats hiding in the warehouse, the breathing of the two people making the exchange, the two other goons hiding behind the other crates.
That wasn't just it. He could also hear their position and even the slightest movements they made. And with just his hearing, he had developed a type of "sight" where he could "see" almost anything within a radius of a hundred meters. As long as he concentrated enough, there were a lot of things he could do with the chaos energy in him, even with his suppression bracelet on his wrist.
With his new "sight", Skylar approached the second goon with his eyes still closed. He knocked the goon out with a karate chop and placed his body on the ground, gently to not make any noise. He approached the last goon and also knocked him out. Just like the other two, Skylar gently laid his body on the ground to not cause any loud noise.
Now that he had gotten rid of the goons, he didn't have to worry about his mission being any harder. All he had to do was grab the money after the exchange and then run off with it.
Now that there were no goons left, he opened his eyes and peeked at the two people making the exchange. There was one white guy with an all black outfit and a black windbreaker over. To top it all off, he also wore black combat boots and his feet. He stood about six feet tall and Skylar guessed that he was the one with the artifact the other guy wanted.
The other guy was a black man, probably in his mid twenties with a small brief case in his hand. He had an undercut under his short black hair and had greyish eyes. He was six feet two inches tall and had a lean, muscular build. He wore a dark button-up shirt over a white t-shirt. He had on some ripped jeans and a pair of sneakers on his feet.
Skylar couldn't help but look at his own clothes when he saw the clothes of the man with the brief case. They were wearing almost the same thing except Skylar's shirt was grey and his jeans weren't ripped.
The ripped jeans guy opened the brief case, revealing the bundles of green bills. Skylar almost whistled when he saw the bundles of hundred dollar bills. The windbreaker guy went closer to have a better look at the cash in the brief case.
"Half a million. Just like you asked", the guy in the ripped jeans said.
A smile appeared on the windbreaker guy's face. He went to take the brief case from ripped jeans guy's hands but ripped jeans guy closed the brief case and took it back, causing the smile on windbreaker guy's face to shake.
"The artifact first", ripped jeans guy said.
Windbreaker guy shook his head. "The money, first", he said with a serious tone.
"No artifact, no money", ripped jeans guy clarified.
Windbreaker guy took a few steps back and started laughing. Skylar didn't know why but the ripped jeans guy also started laughing.
"You know, you're really stupid", the windbreaker guy said. "Coming all alone, without any kind of protection. What if something was to go wrong?", he said as he suddenly took out a gun.
Ripped jeans guy wasn't surprised or shaken. He instead smiled and said, "I'm pretty confident in myself".
"Then you're gonna die", windbreaker guy said. He whistled and waited for something to happen but even after a few seconds, nothing happened. A look of confusion appeared on windbreaker guy's face.
"Was that some kind of signal to those three goons of yours", ripped jeans guy asked.
An alarmed look appeared on windbreaker guy's face as he pointed the gun at ripped jeans guy. "What did you do to them?", he asked in alarm.
"Oh I did nothing", ripped jeans guy said. "Our new friend took them all out".
It was Skylar's turn to be alarmed as ripped jeans guy pointed at where he was hiding. Skylar had been thinking he was doing a great job. It turns out he had been caught a long time ago. Skylar immediately started to suspect that the ripped jeans guy was a supernatural.
Now that he had been caught, there was no need to hide. He got out of his hiding place, only to fall dead on the ground as a gunshot sounded. The windbreaker guy who pulled the trigger, walked up to Skylar's supposed corpse to check if he was dead. He kicked the body a few times just in case. Seeing that the body wasn't moving, he turned back to the ripped jeans guy.
"Did you know this person?", he pointed his gun at ripped jeans guy.
Ripped jeans shook his head, "I don't. Even if I did, it wouldn't matter since he's dead, right?", he said.
"Well you'll be dead soon too if you don't hand the case over to me right now", windbreaker guy said.
"I highly doubt that", ripped jeans guy said with a cocky smile on his face.
Windbreaker guy was about to say something when he noticed the cockiness on the ripped jeans guy's face turn to one of surprise. Soon windbreaker guy found out why.
"You know, I don't like people who kill me", a voice said from behind him.
Windbreaker guy immediately turned around to shoot again but the gun was knocked out of his hand by the guy he thought he had killed just now. With speed that windbreaker guy couldn't react to, Skylar grabbed his neck and snapped it like a twig.
"Especially once that kick me after", Skylar added.
Windbreaker guy's body fell to the floor with a loud thud as Skylar didn't bother to catch him like he did to the three goons he knocked out.
The bullet that had hit his heart a few seconds ago fell down to the ground as it was pushed out by Skylar's already healed injury. He looked down at his chest and saw that his white t-shirt had been dyed red with blood and now had a hole it.
"Jesus, he ruined my only tee", Skylar said in annoyance. He had been wearing the same t-shirt ever since the morning before he got to this universe. He was the only one he currently had but now it was ruined.
Now he had to get another one. The windbreaker guy's windbreaker was actually kinda cool. Skylar squatted beside his corpse to take the windbreaker off of him but suddenly stopped and performed a quick roundhouse kick. Ripped jeans guy who had tried to attack Skylar from behind was sent flying across the room, only stopping when he hit one of the crates.
"It is rude to sneak up on people, you know?", Skylar said. He had unknowingly switched back to his normal accent.
