Davi looked down at the datachip for a moment before standing up and pocketing it. His cold gaze bore into Ivo, but he met his stare unflinching.

"Well done," Davi said, the words came out low and raspy, "I hope your pride was worth the risk."

Ivo glared at him. "I had nothing to do with pride. In fact, I was about to get back and ask for your help before I realised where the door was."

"You can't storm off on your own whenever you hear something you don't like, not during a gig, that's how people end up dead."

The night's neon glow made the bedroom look ghostly. The sharp angles of Davi's face, the soft curve of his mouth, his long feathery lashes, it all looked alien to Ivo for a brief hopeless moment.

He hated being on the receiving end of that insolent stare. Hated how Davi could look at him as if Ivo was behaving irrationally, as if he was being proven right about some assumption he'd made.
