"Why should I go home with you? You can't guarantee me that Delly will stop chasing you, can you?" Becca asked.
That's right, Tommy thought.
He couldn't guarantee that Delly would stop chasing him. But actually, Delly wasn't really after him. Because she wanted to be with him even if only for a moment.
But Tommy knew that this kind of thing was very difficult for Becca during her pregnancy. He understood that the older Becca was, the more sensitive she became. Betty had obviously told him to get Tommy to be patient with sensitive pregnant women.
"See? You can't even answer my question, Tom. Why would I come home-"
"Though I can't guarantee it. I swear that I will avoid her. Everything she tries to find me," he cut her off. "Go home with me, Rebecca … "
Becca faltered. She was so easily sensitive as well as easy to feel melted by actions that show seriousness.
