章 193: The So-called Human Sophistication

Watching Phantom Kid's disappearing figure, Maiev's eyes gradually flickered.

"Hannibal? Judging from Phantom Kid's voice tone, he seems to be sure that the boss was captured by Hannibal, and Hannibal will not kill the boss."

"Would such a monster be so nice?"

Maiev thought that it was impossible.

The FBI case against Hannibal has always been led by Starling.

Except for herself, not many detectives know what happened back then.

There were very few archives left behind. People only knew that Hannibal was a ferocious and terrible monster and that an unknown number of people died at his hands.

And basically, no one has paid attention to any other information.

There was no informative channel for people who wanted to follow up with the case.

Maiev, who was chosen by Starling as a team member, didn't know much about Hannibal either.

"It seems that there is a deeper relationship between the boss and Hannibal…"

But Phantom Kid's words stirred Maiev's thoughts; she began to think that many of Starling's actions were indeed very strange.

She was too obsessed with Hannibal, not like a casual female FBI agent.

This made Maiev consider a widely circulated "rumor" in the FBI National Academy.

The rumor's general idea is that a female FBI agent once had an emotional dispute with a major criminal in a certain case.

Although the detective came back to her senses at the last minute and cut off this undeserved relationship with the criminal, the experience still left an indelible mark on the female detective. And so, her psychological state was deeply affected.

The annual psychological assessment is only a passing-by event, and if you are inadvertent, you will be forced to undergo psychological treatment or be suspended directly.

This also led to the fact that the female detective would never have the opportunity to be promoted again in her life, even if at a great contribution.

This rumor has been circulating in the academy for many years, and no one knows who the female detective in the story is, or whether this is true or not.

Most people merely treat it as a legend. After all, who would have imagined that the FBI would develop feelings for a serial killer?

However, Maiev has now formulated a different idea than before.

She began to suspect that it might not be a rumor…

With a heavy heart, Maiev decided to try her luck in Edinburgh District as mentioned by Phantom Kid.

What secret do Starling and Hannibal share? Well, Maiev didn't want to get herself involved in this matter.

It's just that Maiev had to rescue Starling, regardless of whether it was out of their FBI junior-senior relationship or the personal friendship between the two, who were both professionals and friends.

And even if she faces difficulties and dangers…

   "Huh? Am I forgetting something…"

Taking a few steps away, Maiev suddenly stopped, feeling that she had forgotten something very important, but she couldn't remember it no matter what.

"Damn! Phantom Kid still got my gun!" ——

"Oops, I forgot to return the pistol to her."

On the other side, Mathison, who was heading to Wayne Mansion, suddenly found out that Maiev's gun was still in his hand.

Mathison was lost in thought, should he just throw away this pistol?

It is not good to throw it from a high altitude.

"Forget it, I will just keep it for now."

   Mathison put away the pistol.

Suddenly, Mathison's hand stopped, because he found a building not far in front of him. Its height was only about a dozen meters lower than his altitude.

Mathison immediately adjusted his flying angle slightly, headed towards the building, and threw the pistol down.

«Very good! This is better than throwing it from the sky. I'm really a genius in environmental protection.»

Is there a direct relationship between throwing things from a high altitude and environmental protection?

It really doesn't seem to be the case.

   But is there a problem?

No, no problem.

"I thought you were going to fly back and give her the gun back."

Charlie laid on Mathison's shoulder and rolled his eyes at him.

In order to handle Charlie easily when using the glider, Mathison specially installed a seat belt on his shoulders that can be connected to the frame of the glider.

This was just enough to keep Charlie firmly in place so that even if Mathison did some dangerous stunts with his hang glider, Charlie wouldn't be thrown away.

"By the time we go back, she will no longer be there."

   Mathison said with certainty.

"Don't underestimate the FBI, even a novice detective, without experience, would not be favored by a character like Starling. It is not difficult for her to get a weapon."

"Otherwise, what do you think they did to survive in Gotham when they lost their ammunition supplies?"

   Mathison smiled slightly.

"Do you remember when I used a magazine to scare her? The most common pistol used by the FBI is a modified M1911A1, you know I never use these guns and ammunition."

"Man, a high-end weapon like the FBI-exclusive modified magazine… Do you think I really have it?"

  Charlie's tail wagged.

"Then where did you get the magazine from?"

"I didn't say my magazine belonged to the FBI, it was just a very common Glock magazine, which I got from one of Bane's men, along with the gun."

Mathison conjured another pistol at this time, it was a Glock, with a removed magazine.

Charlie noticed that the Glock that Mathison took out was simply the same type of pistol as Maiev's.

"I see, now."

Seeing this scene, Charlie instantly understood that this was the case.

Maiev's pistol had long run out of bullets, and the gun she is using now is looted from other gangsters.

After so many days, she should have switched to more than one or two weapons.

"So, you don't have to worry about what will happen to her without the pistol, maybe she has already acquired a new gun now."

Mathison threw the Glock with the magazine removed.

"Hey, we're over the intersection now, there's no building below for the gun to fall on!"

  Charlie exclaimed in dissatisfaction.

"Don't worry, the people who will come out on the streets now are only thugs. It's okay to hit them."

   Mathison smiled.

Someone might say that he is very paradoxical; he just said that he doesn't want to throw objects from the sky. Did he forget about that?

   This is true.

Mathison threw the pistol on the ground. But in case it landed beside a good man who needed help, he would have just happened to grant him a tool for self-defense.

It doesn't matter whether there were bullets in it or not, bluffing people could be enough.

   This is a good thing.

This is human sympathy.

If it hits a thug on the head, it would either kill the wicked man directly or be picked up by him. Nevertheless, it would be a useless piece of metal without bullets.

Maybe he will think that this weapon was sent from heaven unloaded because God does not want them to kill anymore.

And a lost soul has found its way to God.

This is sophistication.

   This is worldliness.
