Blake's two hands were already holding onto two different spells that were ready to be unleashed.

But in front of him, there were two of his enemies.

And one of them, who was a demon mage, was a step faster than him and it had already activated the spell that it drew while Blake still had his two prepared spells held in his hands.

Blake was definitely not expecting to see a spell aimed towards him the moment he turned his back to launch his own prepared spells, but that didn't mean that he was frozen still as well.

The moment he saw the runes in front of the smaller humanoid demon on top of the bulkier one flashed, Blake's eyes quickly scanned the runes and matched the runes that he saw with the ones he knew in his head.

It was just a quick scan since Blake knew that he didn't have much time, but his photographic memory was able to take all the runes that flashed for a brief second and recorded them perfectly in his mind.
