章 4: Old Master Finally Regained Consciousness

One day later,

Beep.

Beep..

Beep…

In a hospital bed, there was an old man lying limply on the bed, with different kinds of monitoring machines plugged in. A doctor was there doing the usual routine checkup.

A slight crease appeared on the old man's wrinkled forehead, but soon disappeared in a flash, as if it was an illusion.

The doctor didn't notice anything since he had his back facing the bed, reading the monitors and noting down the readings from time to time on the patient record sheet.

Unknown to anyone, the old man was conscious already but still had his eyes closed. He wanted to find out where he was without anyone knowing he was conscious, just in case he was in a dangerous zone. It was also because he remembered that he had been in a car accident, which didn't seem like an accident at all. He had his own suspicions, and without being sure of his surroundings, he didn't want to make others alert.

After a while, he opened his eyes slightly, peeking around the room from between the small gap in his eyelids.

The room was big and luxurious, not like a hospital room at all. It was more like a presidential suite in a five-star hotel. It was spacious, with a bed big enough to fit two people comfortably. It was accommodated with amenities such as designer bed linen, custom comforters and pillows, and softer. All in all, it was integrated with the latest medical technology and procedures seamlessly with the interior design detailing, ensuring patients that they are getting quality healthcare in a premium setting.

After making sure that he was in a safe place, he fully opened his eyes and made small movements to sit up on the bed.

Noticing the movement from behind him, the doctor hurriedly turned over and noticed that the patient was awake. He hurriedly pressed the bell to call for other doctors to check on the patient.

He wanted to help the old man sit up, but just as he was about to take a step forward, he was stopped by the cold glare of the old man. Although the old man was sick, his aura had not deteriorated even a bit. It was still as powerful and scary as always.

Just as the old man was propping himself up against the headboard of the bed, another well-suited old man entered the room, seemingly of the same age as him.

He hurried to the side of the old man on the bed and greeted him, "Old Master Emerson, you're finally awake. How do you feel?"

Old Master Emerson casted an indifferent glance at his personal assistant and tried to unplug all the medical devices plugged into his body.

The personal assistant immediately stopped him from doing so. "Old master, please don't do this. It's for your own well-being."

Old Master Emerson replied indifferently in a cold tone without stopping his actions, "It seems like you are getting senile due to your old age, Jin."

The personal assistant, who was referred to as Jin by his master, immediately understood the underlying meaning of the sentence.

"I know, old master, you dislike being confined to one place doing nothing, but you're injured and were in a coma for one whole day after getting into an accident. You need to take care of yourself or else those people who harbor malicious thoughts about the Emerson Group will get a chance to play their dirty cards."

Hearing that, old master Emerson stopped his movement. A flash of helplessness flickered past in his eyes, but it vanished as swiftly as it appeared.

Seeing his master stop his movements, Assistant Jin understood the unsaid acquiescence of his master. He hurriedly waved at the doctor to go on with his checkup.

The doctor instantly understood the signal and went out of the ward to call the doctors waiting outside the ward.

Outside the ward, the whole corridor was so silent that the sound of a needle dropping could be heard clearly. There were bodyguards stationed all around the corridor. The doctors waiting were professionals hired from all around the world to see whom many rich people had to beg, but now they were standing outside in the corridor waiting on a patient.

Seeing the fierce-looking, bulky bodyguards, none of them dared to make a fuss about it, no matter how long they had been waiting. Even though all the bodyguards had no expression on their faces, it looked like they were ready to deal with anyone who dared to cause trouble. Seeing this, the doctor, who had just come out of the ward, gulped and called the others in.

After doing a thorough check up and replugging all the monitoring equipment back on the patient, they all stood aside in a line, silently looking like disciplined students waiting for their teacher's instructions.

Seconds later, Assistant Jin entered the ward and asked them about the results.

"Old Master Emerson is better now after a day of rest. His injuries are also healing well. He could be discharged after staying under observation for two more days," replied the chief doctor.

Hearing this, Old Master Emerson scoffed and said, "I don't need any more observation; it's enough that I'm fine now," but didn't insist on leaving the hospital, remembering what Assistant Jin had just said a while before.

Upon hearing that, Assistant Jin just pursed his lips and said nothing more. He was glad that his master didn't pursue the matter of leaving the hospital anymore, because he was well aware that his old master could be really stubborn at times and no one would be able to stop him if he insisted on doing something.

"Old master, you must be hungry. I'll be right back with some nutritious food for you. Please have a rest till then."

Saying that he bowed, turned around, and left the room, to get some food for his old master, leading the doctors out.
