Even though his body was healing from the injuries he got it wasn't free but rather it was gradually taking his health point in return, which meant if this kept on he wouldn't be able to keep up even if he wanted to, eventually, he would run out of hp and then he would have no other choice but to run even if he could seriously be wounded in the process after all he already died once.
