(A/N: I think I messed up the rotations again…..)
The momentum was down for Kitagawa Daiichi. Their once-solid foundation had broken down a little as their Coach watched on grimly.
[23-19]
In favor of Yukigaoka.
They had committed multiple mistakes. Not only was Kageyama setting even more difficult sets, but the rest of the team had lost much motivation. Hits had turned into roll-shots and their blocking was suffering some.
Hinata had managed to hit through the blocks a few times, causing the orange fluff of energy to become more pumped. He was jumping in the air, twirling around, massaging his teammates, along with some other stuff.
Hayato smirked. They just need two more points and they could wrap things up. Hinata had just gone front-row and he would be following soon after. While he couldn't dump or block, he had the main gun at his full potential.
Koji was up to serve. Wiping some sweat off his face, he gritted his teeth in determination. He hadn't done much today. Out of the team, he probably contributed the least. Izumi, Hayato, and Hinata were doing most of the work.
Tossing the ball up, he served it over hard. It shot towards the back line.
"I got it!" At the same time, two players lunged out for the ball, arms outstretched. They arrived, colliding with each other in a crash, though one of the two managed to bump it into the air.
*Womp!*
They stumbled apart, watching the ball before looking at each other.
Kageyama growled a little but paid the players no mind. It was incompetent, but that was not his priority. His priority was getting the ball over the net and scoring. Wrists snapping cleanly, he sent the ball overhead.
It was a high rainbow leaning a little too far out, but that was on purpose. He needed it as far away as No. 7 as possible, after all.
The opposite hitter, sweat dripping off of his short black hair ran up as the ball zoomed past his nose. Reaching out with his right hand, he managed to tip the ball back in, just shy of the antennae. The ball rolled on down as Yukigaoka scrambled.
Hinata sprinted forwards at full speed, before stopping in his tracks as he narrowly missed the net. Skittering about, he watched as the ball dropped towards him.
*Wmp!*
In the most miraculous play ever, the orange-haired boy reached out attempting to dig the ball, only for it to bounce off the top of his head.
Stumbling back, he watched as it went up low. Hayato bolted into action, skip-stepping as he dodged by Hinata. Raising his calves and pushing his hands out, he set the ball out. Kawashima ran forwards, swinging his small hands back as he jumped up, his fingers bristling against the ball as it tipped over the net.
Even if they were in some disorder, it did not mean that Kitagawa Daiichi was incompetent. Their libero slid across the ground, diving as he hooked it back up. It was back to Kageyama in a few moments.
Standing still, he threw the ball out almost flat as the middle and outside approached up. It zipped by Kindaichi's head, arriving just in front of the outside. Reaching out, just like the previous hit, the spiker barely managed to get it over, swinging it off in a lobbed arc.
"Mine! I got it!" Suzuki stepped back, bumping the ball with a weird swing. It went up, Hayato running to meet it.
"Nice up!" Hayato jumped off one foot, craning as he back-set it out front left.
It was an admittedly good ball, flying high enough for one to react, but low enough to slam down. Hinata burst into action from the sideline, his sneakers smashing into the ground as he took off sideways with a boom.
The blockers shot up, but it was already too late.
His arm raised high and his hand curled forth, Shoyo Hinata had a wide grin on his face as he struck.
*WABOOM!*
He nailed it just shy of the backline, landing on the balls of his feet as he ran back.
"Nice kill!"
The rest of the team roared their approval as it reached match point.
[24-19]
Just one point was needed to wrap the first set up. Koji stepped back to serve, his shoulders tensed and his face dripping with sweat. He was in quite a good mood as was most of the team, but he also knew that he couldn't get cocky.
*Wmp!*
A little too far out for comfort, the ball went, sliding on towards the backline. Thankfully, it was probably in as the libero shuffled on back, bumping the ball in a nice spin-less dig. Up it went in a somewhat reasonable toss from the King himself as Kindaichi threw himself forwards. His form was wide and loose, he swept his tense arm in a powerful fast motion.
*Woom!*
It flamed down the line, smashing into the ground, the back row players frozen, not knowing what to do. Hayato sighed, patting them on the back. It was a good hit, not to mention they hadn't really learned how to read the ball. He couldn't and didn't blame them.
"Nice try, it's fine. We're going against a highly skilled team and this is your first true game. Just don't be complacent and try your best." Hayato gave them a bright smile, his appearance seemingly splayed in radiant dazzling light.
"Don't worry! We just have to get one point. One point and we win the first set! Of our first ever game! Isn't that awesome!?" Hinata chimed in, giving them a flashy grin of his own, displaying a row of bright white teeth.
Hayato thought for a moment. Honestly, the whole situation was still very exciting. The roaring frothing river that was Kitagawa Daiichi attempted to pierce the unstable yet barely compact dirt hill of Yukigaoka. He really liked making analogies.
As he stared at the other side, it was almost like he could hear the crashing of water. Daiichi's battle cry. Hayato rolled his eyes as he slapped his cheeks. He could get a little too imaginative at times. Not to mention the fact that his analogy was sort of flawed in a few ways.

(A/N: Sorry for the.... Long game. When I first began this fanfiction, I wanted to do something different, as most Sport fanfics I read just gave the information with a few cool moments mixed in. They were more "tell" than show which was something that gets me bored. Of course there are still plenty of good ones. I honestly didn't intend for the first freaking set to be around 12,000 words..... But I'm having fun writing it, so for me, that's good enough. Who cares about the readers anyway?)
