Cora's eyes lifted to the sky, tracing the flying creatures with her vision until she knew that Grayson was aware of what she was looking at. It was the only time she had ever seen him alarmed—when they were speaking of the Camazotz in Ambrosia's study.
"If I am a vampire—if I allow myself to be," she said softly, shifting her gaze to her feet, "will I need a new name then?"
There were pieces to the puzzle that seemed to be fitting themselves together in her mind, but she couldn't quite visualize the whole picture yet. She knew that somehow the alternative names were significant, and they were a weakness of the vampires' just like the Camazotz.
"No, it is too late for you to have a second name. Everyone knows your first name, and you are a very public figure," he said stiffly.
She turned to face him. "What could anyone possibly do to me by using my name?"
"Nothing," he shook his head. "It is nothing."
