Amber's face turned pallid, and her heavy makeup failed to conceal it. Her lips parted and then closed. Her eyes darted left and right. She felt dizzy and queasy all at once. She wished she could just disappear.

She would not have been embarrassed if Declan had asked her these questions a few months ago. She would have answered him proudly and walked away haughtily, showing no sign of shame. But he was asking it at a time when she was already regretting her actions.

Would he believe her if she said she was sorry for what she did?

She bit her fingernails in apprehension.

Declan frowned, seeing how clumsy she had become. He was, however, annoyed when he didn't get her response. He assumed she was trying to make an excuse.

"Don't try to avoid it. It is not going to work. I know everything. I just want to hear it from you." He paused and then asked more fiercely, "I am asking you again: Is your baby Sean's?"
