章 9: The Night Grim

Stephan realized she was right. No matter how much she made the tutorial hard, she was right. He was confident and if it was a real monster instead of a mob, he could be dead a long time ago no matter how much he fought. He had limited stamina and mana. He noticed that one normal attack consumed one mana energy and it didn't regenerate immediately. It took one hour to regenerate it. He had 20 mana energy and even if there was no timer, he would die by exhausting his energy and would be forced to use his brute force, maybe using the sceptre like a club but it wouldn't do much damage.

He had ten in agility, which means he was slow and judging by how the monster moved, it had to have higher agility than him so even if he dodged the first attacks, who would guarantee it would be the same for the rest?

His attack was around 24 and added to the elemental mastery, it would be only multiplied by that number. One single slash from that monster would slice his body in two, another death scenario. He had a total of critical damage and critical rate low, which meant he wouldn't get so much high damage. Furthermore, even by multiplying the damage, the defense played a vital role in getting the damage down. The Aracney not only had a shield, it wasn't bothered by the fall it experienced and simply moved normally, even the red bar above its head didn't budge a single drop down.

It was a lost cause and she was right.

"I wouldn't get respawned if I died, right?" he asked, worry in his tone. He expected an answer but nothing from her side. He understood that the tutorial was over and she left.

For the first time since he transmigrated, he couldn't joke about it or call her a devil in disguise. It was true he always wished to join a similar world to the one in the games he played but now, he wished he would return but there was no way. He was trapped in that world and there was no time to grief over it. His eyes moved to the system window and widened at what was written.

<Penalty quest: Survive the night.>

The domain dissipated and he found himself in the forest again. However, he didn't have any buff anymore or the protection of the system. Something in him told him to rush and hide, to run and seek a shelter. The night was dangerous. Instead of warning against the undead, the night was more dangerous because there was something that only appeared at night.

He rubbed his eyes and stared into the night. When he emerged from that place, it was night. He didn't know where to begin, where to go, where to head off… He had to take shelter. The important in his mind was to take shelter. He wasn't safe anymore once the night came.

He turned around and started running looking for anything, any place where to hide. His eyes rolled to all sides, looking for even holes. He was running until his stamina ran out and he had to walk but his instinct kept pestering him about hiding.

Sometimes the best answer was to fall. Strangely, there was a trap for monsters but it wasn't complete. Everything existed for a reason. He fell and his sceptre broke into two. "Sh*t" he cursed.

He fell on his butt and the pain felt like lightening hitting it. "Why did it have to be my butt? How am I supposed to sit later?" he rubbed it to ease the pain and got up. He picked the sceptre broken in two and pushed it inside his pants. Since it was broken, it didn't hinder his face.

Using all the strength he had, he climbed until he reached the end of the hole and attempted to get out. However, what he saw was something he didn't expect. It was the first time again he felt he was so unfamiliar to the world. He was a shut-in and the world he was in didn't have any monsters that roamed like that.

There was something sinister and dreadful. A monstrous creature that had two small scythes in hands, that if they were truly hands. It was a creature that was born from shadows, with two glowing eyes, fiery and murderous. It floated and anywhere it flew by turned into a dead thing. No wonder his instinct warned him to hide; there was a creature like that roaming at night. He had to survive the night.

Right when he wanted to return to the hole, he felt something behind his back. It was another one, standing right behind him on the other side of the hole and it saw him. He froze and could hear the beating of his heart inside his ears. But he didn't want to die… He didn't come to die.

<Buff: Lowers stamina consumption and 3 additional stats of agility.>

The floating window made his adrenaline rush in his veins and give him the courage he didn't have a moment ago. Bravery only appeared when fear submerged the whole body. Running away from a danger wasn't cowardice. The shadow of the night wasn't a creature that was meant to be destroyed. Nobody had ever succeeded in causing harm to it.

Stephan resumed his running towards an unknown direction. He thought about the protection of the system and how it stopped those monsters from reaching him. The tutorial was to prepare him for that.

'If only I took things seriously… If I survive, I promise I would work harder, I wouldn't back off,' he thought to himself.

It took him one night of continuous running to understand that Masmoenia was a dangerous place. Furthermore, not only those monsters that wore the night like veil, there were only an army of undead. He was running also from them. Climbing the trees wasn't a good idea as well. It was agonizing.

'If I survive, I will make my goal to slap her hard. I hope she is the last boss,' he thought to himself again as he kept hiding the whole night from the night Grims.

<Night Grim: The remaining of an ancient Supreme King that road the land to steal the souls and absorb spiritual energy making the living alive.>
