章 337: We Need To Talk

What Richard did tonight felt like more than that though. He actually teased Laney in front of her friends and she hadn't been able to imagine him teasing anyone before that, act or no act. 

That was something real couples did. If he kept that up, they wouldn't believe there was anything wrong until the last possible minute. Which was exactly what she needed to get through this farce. 

"Still. I know you're busy but you helped me out anyway," Laney insisted.

"I'll try to do better next time."

He had already done way better than she expected to but she supposed he was a perfectionist. That had to be why he had bothered to try and win at laser tag. 

Laney couldn't deny she was curious what 'trying to do better' would look like for him. Richard really wasn't half as good an actor as she was. He was so reticent that it seemed like he had been dragged anywhere he was by force. Which was the truth but no one else was supposed to know that!
