I snap out of my trance and clear my throat as I move back. She sighs as she mutters under her breath, "I need to fix my heels."

My gaze slides to her feet and my brows furrow together as I shove my hands into my pockets. I'm watching her like she's a mystery documentary I'm trying to decipher. Just how high is this woman? "Why?" I dare ask.

"Because I have to go to sleep."

I cock my brow at her because none of that makes any sense, so I challenge her. "You're not wearing any heels, Ree." In fact, she's wearing gray fluffy socks that match her PJs.

Ever so slowly, she drags her glazed stare down her feet and it takes her a few seconds. "Oh, you're right."
