With just the leader left standing, the enforcers began to advance past the dead bodies and across the walkway. They ignored the threats coming from the leader of the Forgefathers, even as he held a weapon to the heads of the two hostages that he had.
"Shouldn't we, I don't know, listen or something?" Gus asked.
"God, you're naive," Jessica responded. "We buckle, and we show weakness for the entirety of the enforcers. Yeah, he might follow through and kill them, but that's a fair price to pay to keep the other gangs in line. If they hear about this and we didn't take his head, then I can say with certainty that more will try the same thing. And besides, he won't actually kill them, not unless he's a fool. As long as they're alive then he has a way to negotiate. Not that this'll end in any other way than him dead on the floor."
"So we risk their lives to kill him? That's what you're saying?"
