章 66: I Want Wings

"Wait, WHAT?!"

She was not sure if this was a cruel joke or some miracle performed with demonic witchcraft. She examined the face of the pirate king, searching for any clues of dishonesty and finding none.

"Good gods," she breathed.

She had always felt like her life was missing something. She hadn't exactly wanted to think about the nature of that certain something; that trail led down into a deep, dark forest full of misery. After all, she had never even believed that she could ever conceive. To consciously despair about something like that was to accept the existence of its opposite: hope. And she didn't want to have any hopes if they were in vain.

Even now, when speaking to an ancient demon who surely knew what he was doing, she had trouble believing him.

"I know," Daniel said, and he sounded like he was having a hard time keeping his face all serious. The smile he was holding in was audible in his voice.
