Edward was terrified seeing the number of zombies gathered at the broken door, he almost fainted from fear.
Edward and the zombies stared at each other for a while, both sides did not make any moves yet; Edward did not have the courage to fight or flee anyway.
The zombies scanned around the room with their hungry filled red eyes before they settled their gazes on Edward, the boy flinched.
To his surprise, the zombies did not rush at him as he had expected but instead turned around as they began to go back to their previous places with sluggish steps.
Edward was stunned "Was it that they could not see me?" He thought to himself in confusion. No, that was not right either. He was sure they could see him but strangely, they ignored him.
He suddenly remembered how the zombies' eyes had lingered on him before they left. Although the zombies were dead and could not express their emotions, some changes were just too impossible to miss.
He clearly saw how the zombies red eyes slowly lost their hungry intentions when looking at him, it was as if they were saying 'Who the fuck is this kid? Why are you making so much noise and raising false alarms, huh? You made me lose track of my food'
Somehow, Edward felt insulted by their gazes…wait a minute.
PA!!
Edward suddenly slapped himself across the face, his cheek immediately turned red.
"What the fuck am I thinking? I should be happy they left on their own" he scolded himself while holding back the urge to cry, he had miscalculated his strength and that slap had hurt him very much.
'Since when was I this strong?' he thought to himself while staring at his hand.
Shaking his head to clear his head of those thoughts, Edward began to check his body to confirm that he was really okay.
Edward was given a surprise after he was done observing himself. Not only did he not have any injuries or marks anywhere on his body, his body seemed to have undergone some changes…good changes.
He found out that his skin was now fairer and smoother than before, his lean body had also become more muscular with his abs becoming more apparent. Don't get him wrong. It was not that he had a malnutrition body before, he was just not the athletic type since he never exercised and only had a lean body.
But right now, he could feel his solid abs when touching them and his chest and arms were no longer as they used to be.
"What happened to me?" He muttered to himself in amazement.
He was sure that he was no longer a human or even if he still was, he had become something else.
"Did I transform into a zombie?" He thought that was the most logical reason why he was still alive, but he could not make sense of it. He had seen people turning into zombies, they looked hideous after transforming and not good-looking like his case.
"Maybe the transformation failed? Or maybe I became a ghoul or half-zombie?" Edward wracked his brain, trying to get an answer to his questions but nothing made sense.
"I will worry about that later, I should get out of here first since I still don't know if those zombies will change their minds and come back for me" Edward thought as he slowly stood up.
He stepped out of the door, staggering a bit. He had been sleeping there for who knows how long and his legs had gone numb, he had to hold onto the sides of the wall to support himself.
Staggering to the broken door, Edward's eyes widened when he saw the motionless body of the female zombie that had caused him so much pain. Rage built up inside of him when he remembered how this zombie had greedily eaten him up, his hands that were holding onto the sides of the already broken door clenched, and with a cracking sound he broke off a part of whatever remained of the metal door.
Edward looked at the metal piece in his hand, shocked by his own strength. His hand was unharmed and he did not feel any different when he ripped off the metal piece, it felt like he had torn off a piece of carton box instead.
"Increased strength and enhanced physique. Isn't this just like those things in stories? How come they are happening to me? Did heaven finally decide to reward me for my suffering?" He thought to himself as his eyes slowly turned red, he was on the verge of tears.
(Heaven: spit! Why would we bless a coward like you? Get lost! You aren't the only one with the ability)
Edward took deep breaths to calm his excited heart, he believed that his line of thought was right. After all, ever since the apocalypse started three years ago, cases like his had never been heard of as all they ever heard about were zombies and super soldiers created by the government.
"I should test my ability to see just how much I've changed" Edward muttered to himself, coincidentally, Edward's eyes drifted off to the side of the road where he saw a few zombies roaming around. Instantly, he changed his mind.
"Or maybe not, I will just go with increased strength" his body shuddered at the sight of the hideous zombies, he did not have the courage to attack first.
He turned his attention back to the body of the female zombie on the ground and slowly approached it, he got a closer look at the zombie and felt his stomach rioting. He covered his mouth and held his stomach, although he had seen sights such as this a lot since the apocalypse, he always felt nauseous over a few extremely hideous ones.
Looking at the countless holes in the zombie's body, Edward could tell that it must have been marked and the others who had killed it. 'If only they had come a bit sooner' Edward grumbled in his thought as anger began to fill his heart again.
After making sure the zombie was completely dead, Edward started to attack it bravely without caring for his life! He was serving justice!
He bashed his fist on the face of the zombie countless times and only stopped after the face was completely gone and what was left was squashed matter and a terrifying stench that threatened to knock Edward unconscious if he did not leave soon.
Edward was having trouble breathing because of the stench and was about to leave when a pleasant smell suddenly drifted into his nose, the smell was mouth-watering and Edward had to turn back to take a look. As if like a magnet, his eyes instinctively zoomed on the pair of red eyes amidst the squashed head of the zombie.
"This…" Edward froze, staring at the pair of red eyes. His instinct was telling him to eat them but how could Edward agree to such thoughts? He forcefully tore his sight away from zombie corpses and fled, dashing into the street.
Edward roamed the street for a long time and before he knew it, it was already night and the cold wind brushed against his sticky clothes that were covered in blood.
"I should go get new clothes" Edward said to himself, he had lived in this city before everything happened so he was a bit familiar with the place.
Edward also discovered another change about himself and that was that despite that it was already night, he could see clearly as though it was day.
With the help of his new ability, Edward was able to quickly find his way to the nearest clothing store while avoiding zombies along the way.
