章 12: Preperations!
Living with the Tonks wasn't as bad as Harry thought, once he realized that there is no way he would be allowed to live alone he decided to compromise a little bit. Even still being told what to do kind of annoyed him a lot.
"Hector, dinner time!" Harry heard Tonks shouting from downstairs.
This was exactly what Harry was talking about, being forced to have dinner with 3 strangers was not high on his bucket list, especially if you had to do it every day. Well the three of them were quite cool if he wasn't being biased, plus the food did taste good, and it was nice to see the struggles of a fellow Metamorphmagus, even though his stumbling was forced out during his Hydra training.
The family of three was happy though, that's what Harry could gain out of everything else, even though the constant feud between tonks and her mother was a bit excessive but maybe a bit of leeway should be given to her considering she was stuck with such a horrible name.
Harry closed the book on wizarding history that he was reading, he was trying to find something about his family, and apparently, the Potters were one of the most famous families in Britain. According to the book, Potters descended from the Prevell line one of the founding families of Britain, famous for their battle magic there were several mentions of his grandfather Charlus Potter the first fighting in the war against Gellert Grindelwald. After that, his brother was mentioned as the only known person to survive the killing curse and the defeat of the Dark Lord Voldemort.
Harry didn't know what to think about that, he doesn't remember anyone from the Potter family, the oldest memory that he had was when he was 3 years old and by that time Harry was already living with the Dursleys. The one thing that was bother him was the picture of Lily Potter. He doesn't know what to think about it, maybe his mind was playing tricks on him but he could clearly picture seeing her several times before he was 5 years old around Pivet drive. There was one time he saw her in the park, back when he was allowed to go there, and he remembers seeing her outside his school when he was looking around for his aunt to go home. There were hundreds of different scenes in which he could recognize her from when he was a kid, but none after his fifth birthday.
Harry's thoughts were in a slight turmoil, he opened the book again and looked at Lily's picture before he concluded that yes, his mother was indeed observing him from a distance for at least a few years before she stopped.
'Maybe his father found out and stopped her?' Harry guessed, according to what he had read, that the Lord of the house has at least some form of power over his family members.
'Maybe he was checking if he indeed had some magic and upon finding that he didn't, she stopped?' Squibs were a shame to the family name, after all, maybe that's why his father never visited, plus they already had a child who was perfect.
"Hector!!!" Tonks shouted again breaking Harry's line of thought.
'Right dinner,' Harry slouched, he needed to control his emotions, he knew that deep down he craved to know the answers to some questions but he was also frightened to find out.
He closed the book again before sneaking a glance at Lily once again, her picture had clearly shaken him as he started doubting some of the things he knew.
'Maybe his Aunt lied that day?' Harry entertained that thought for a second before discarding it away, It just wasn't possible, he couldn't see one way that could be false.
"You okay? What are you reading today, Magical law again? God, you're such a Ravenclaw..." Nymphadora chattered away as soon as she saw him enter.
Harry took the seat on one end of the table and quietly started eating, "You were a Hupplepuff weren't you? How did a daughter of house Black even manage that?" Harry bit back and Tonks's hair turned red with fury.
"You little brat..." she stopped eating and as she was about to sit up, her mother cleared her throat, so she simply growled and sat back down.
"So Hector, you have been reading about the families living in Britain?" Andromeda asked with a curious look.
"Yes," Harry measured his answer for a bit before he spoke, "I wanted to know the current heirs to the magical families that would be attending Hogwarts, just to steer clear and not offend anyone," he grimaced, "as I have read, the laws don't really favor the muggle-born in the magical society..." Harry could see Ted grimace as well as he nodded slightly.
Andromeda on the other hand seemed intrigued by his reason, "It's not just the heirs you need to be careful of Hector, there are multiple alliances in place between different families that conclude a very tight network, don't even get me started on the complex situation within the Slytherin house, thankfully there is very less chance you would be placed there as there being a muggle-born so it is good, honestly the best house for you to be sorted would be Hufflepuff, at least you won't have to tiptoe around in your own common room." She finished darkly and Harry shuffled on his seat and nodded.
Ted finally spoke up, "Don't worry too much about this stuff, no one bothers first-year students with anything much unless they stick out too much... I walked the hallowed halls of Hogwarts at possibly the worst period in the past century and I came out okay." He smiled reassuringly.
"You mean you didn't stick out by marrying one of the Pureblood princesses of the darkest family from the sacred 28? I might as well get away with murder at this point..." Harry muttered and Andromeda chuckled while Ted gave a sheepish grin.
"Well, I stand by my statement, I married Dromeda after I left Hogwarts," he winked at Harry, "...timing is key Hector." and with that quite chuckles erupted from everyone.
'Maybe these dinners ain't so bad...' Harry thought as a small smile was present on his face.
