章 20: Save the world
Chapter twenty
Jake and the rest couldn't move. They just stood still, staring at Jessica.
Mathias looked over at Jake, "We have to move now or we will die!" It seemed as though he just screamed.
Jake didn't reply or perhaps he didn't even hear him.
They watched in anguish as Jessica brought something out and threw it over at the crowd. She bent slightly and the undead exploded.
She stood and looked over at Jake's frustrated face. She smiled wildly and walked to them, "Let's go see Gaius."
Gaius looked so happy to see Jessica as well as the rest of his team. Everyone was scared she could have been turned. If truly she was the one that saved the world in the future, then she was needed to save the world from the claws of Charles.
"There's something I didn't tell you," Jessica said while looking at one of the undead that has been caged now. Gaius and the rest were also close by. Everyone was so happy when they realized Jessica brought some foodstuffs for them.
Gaius looked over at Jessica, "what's that?"
"The world isn't what I dreamt it to be," she looked at him, at the confused face of Gaius. She looked slightly at Jake," Firstly, the world started with a guy with the name Max," she looked back at Gaius," But I don't know who he is in reality. And now, I'm left with Jake, someone I didn't see in my dream."
" You said she went to the future! Isn't she supposed to see what would happen to us in the future?"
Gaius took a turn and walked to the wall, he picked chalk and made a pattern. Then he turned towards them again, "Actually, I suspected this. Going into the future does come with great consequences. To prevent us from knowing what the future is really about, it will be changed. What else has changed? Tell us all."
Jessica sighed and took a seat close to Jay," In my dream, I had already lost my parents but now, one died due to the outbreak. Also, in my dream. this undead turned after an hour but in reality, they turned in ten minutes," she went silent for a while," The epidemic broke out in Silver town in my dream but in reality, it started at every corner of the town," She looked up," including Shalera."
" Shalera?" Shalera is the capital of the country, "How did you save the world?" Mercury asked.
"I killed Max," She smiled slyly, remembering the dream again," I mean Charles. I killed Charles in Montego."
" So, that means you guys will see Charles in Montego?"
Jessica shrugged slightly," Who knows? The world has changed so very much. But," she stood," I will do all I can to kill him. I'm going to search every mountain and hill. Meanwhile, we will need to save people as we do this. There are some people I need to save and see," Jessica said and remembered MaryAnn and John.
She saw MaryAnn and John in the hall in the town of Roseville. But she had searched every nook and corner of the town and these two people are yet to be found. She doesn't know how much the world has changed but she needs to find some people she has related well within her dream.
Gaius looked at Jessica, "Be careful"
Jake stood too and looked at him," Don't worry, I will be with him. Meanwhile, you guys should stay focused on getting the antivirus. My men will stay guard to protect you and we will always make sure to head back to give you guys food. Also, you have a phone and so you can call me at any time."
Gaius nodded once and smiled," I'm so glad I have you two. I can finally create the cure with peace of mind."
Jessica smiled now and looked up at Jake.
They walked out together. Everywhere seemed quiet and free of the undead but they still couldn't blot out the fact that this undead may be hiding in every room. This is a hospital, and so there will be at least one patient in every room.
Jessica entered the bus and looked at her mom for a while. The tears she has been holding for a while now stream down her face in cascading order. She rushed to her and ended in her embrace.
The dream she had looked so real that she thought was an orphan. She started flat and from an illness she couldn't control.
When she woke up, it was a great thing that she was very much ok, including her parents. How couldn't she take it seriously? It was her fault. She killed her father.
She pulled back and stared right into her mother's face. Even the tears were doing all they could to make her very miserable. Her vision seemed blurred by the tears but she couldn't stop crying, "It was my fault. If I hadn't left Roderwall, I would have protected dad and you"
Jenny wiped the tears off Jessica's face. She smiles at her, "This isn't your fault. If you had been around, you might have been dead by now. It happened so fast that your dad that used to be strong was the first person that was taken. It wouldn't have made any difference if you had been here. I might have been forced to accept the fact that I won't be seeing both of you again," she burst into another fresh tear before pulling her into a hug.
She didn't know what to think, she didn't know what to say.
The world did change and not only that, she changed too. Within a twinkle of an eye, she almost became an orphan. She wondered how many children have become orphans already.
How the heck was she supposed to believe that she went to the future?
She sighed and looked over at Jake.
They have a world to save, a big world at that.
