章 24: HE’S BACK

It's been a few weeks since James came back. We have been looking for another place to live so that we don't have to crowd the house. We found one that is only about 5 minutes from Dani's house so we will still have support from them. I'm currently 18 weeks along. The morning sickness has gotten a bit worse but James has been taking good care of me. I had a craving for ice cream and spicy chips last night and he got up and went to the store for me. I love him so much that it hurts. I am happy that I get to have him with me everyday. We have been working on collecting everything so that we can move out. I am upstairs in James' room trying to get some things settled. I walk over to the mirror and look at my belly. I am showing and I don't know how to feel about it. Part of me is excited about the baby and part of me is insecure. I wasn't very thin to begin with and now I will have even more weight on me with the baby. I hear a knock at the door and walk out to the hall.
"Babe I got it, you stay up there!" James yells out.
"Ok!"
I go back into the room and some more of my stuff to pack up. I need something to drink. That should be enough packing today. I walk out of our room and go downstairs. I can hear laughing. I wonder who was at the door. I stop at the bottom of the steps when I see James' dad sitting at the kitchen island with James.
"Zarah, there you are! It has been too long!"
"Hey Mr.Danvers."
Mr.Danvers gets up and walks over to me. He stops about 5 feet from me and looks down at my belly.
"Well, what happened here?"
"Well, um."
"Dad, why don't we explain everything during dinner. That way you can see Kiki and mom too."
"I don't know why you can't tell me now but alright. I'm going to go get some stuff settled upstairs."
James' dad goes upstairs and closes the bedroom door. I turn toward James.
"How come you didn't just tell him?"
"I just think that we should wait for support before we tell him. After all, my dad and I don't have the greatest relationship."
James and his dad were kind of close but as he grew older and found what he wanted to do he and his dad grew apart. His dad is a travel surgeon and travels for months at a time to help out patients in other areas. Mr.Danvers wanted James to follow in his footsteps so that they could travel together. He was very upset when he found out that James wanted to be a lawyer and not what his dad was doing. To his dad there was nothing more noble Between that and James' girlfriends. He dated a lot of girls in high school up until senior year. But everyone that he brought home his dad seemed to hate. It doesn't make me feel any better about telling him about us and the baby later.
"Yeah, I guess you're right. I hope that he doesn't mind us though."
"Look, we have known each other for years, I think my dad will love the fact that I am dating you. After all he does love you."
I smile at him.
"Yeah, but what about the baby? I don't want to completely ruin your relationship with him over this."
"You won't. No matter what happens I promised you, I am not leaving your side for any reason."
I smile and nod. James pulls me into a hug. He is right though. I shouldn't worry about this until tonight. We can't tell him anything until then anyway.
