Christina looked in the satyr's direction as he entered the room she had fought the empousai in.
"Ahh you are fine!" he said while panting. "Why did you disappear?!"
"I didn't disappear, I had to run away from her for a bit to avoid her attacks and ended up here." replied Christina while pointing at the pile of ashes.
"I s-see." said the satyr.
"How are the other's Grover?" asked Christina while looking into the satyr's eyes.
"Well they are fine, Luke got a small cut on his arm but a bandage is enough for it." replied Grover, still nervous about the recent attack. While it was good that the four demigods were strong enough to defeat one empousai each, he blamed himself for taking the wrong turn... if only he was more experienced this wouldn't have happened.
Christina nodded when hearing this and made her way back to the others, leaving the nervous Grover behind, much to his dismay.
Christina didn't hate him, not at all, she just found him a bit... cowardly. They were making their way to what was supposed to be a camp of demigods, were they would be safe, but the satyr that was meant to guide them kept taking wrong turns, which combined to Luke's growing recklessness was just a recipe for disaster.
Christina wasn't the only one who noticed Luke's change, Thalia was also aware of this, though in truth they couldn't blame him. They had already promised not to blame each other, and instead support the decisions they made. Even Annabeth had began to notice Luke's change, however just like Christina she saw nothing wrong with it.
It was true that getting in more fights meant being in more danger, but Christina couldn't help but agree with Luke, those monsters would hunt them anyway, so taking them out before they got the chance to attack was the safest way. Annabeth agreed, though it was more because of her blind admiration for her family as well as her belief that they could defeat anything together.
Thalia was the only one who saw a problem with this, but it was only because she disliked the idea of her family being in danger, however Luke managed to convince her, since the point that attacking first was safer indeed held some truth in it, besides they were gaining much more experience, improving their fighting styles and overall becoming stronger faster than before, which in turn meant they would be safer.
They were currently on the state of New York, getting closer and closer to Long Island, where the camp for demigods Grover talked about was supposed to be. Grover told them it would take them a week to arrive, however two weeks had gone by and only now were they getting close to it. This couldn't be blamed on him however, since while it is true that he took wrong turns, the group didn't actively avoid fights either. All this change however when the hellhounds arrived.
They all understood well that in order to to escape the relentless pursuit of the monsters of the underworld, they couldn't waste any more time. It had been over a week since the monsters began chasing them, much to Grover's confusion, however this only helped to stress him, and the amount of wrong turns he made increased.
"We left them behind." said Thalia while panting heavily.
"Yes, now all we need to do is get out of this bus and run to the camp right?" asked Christina while looking at Grover. She was currently resting her head on the window of the bus while sweat trailed down her forehead and neck.
"Well... not quite." he said nervously, while also breathing heavily. "Camp Half-blood is in the shore of Long Island, however to get to it we need to go through a forest, and the bus doesn't make stops there, so we will have to go through the entire town first."
The group looked at him with slightly annoyed expressions. They were already extremely tired, barely making it away from the hellish hounds by taking the bus, now having to run not only through an entire forest but also through the whole town was too much. Luckily or unluckily for them, they were used to such things and knew that complaining would be useless.
Taking the bus trip as a break, the group started bandaging the small cuts left behind by the hellhounds that were pursuing them, while Christina decided to make use of her time by braiding Annabeth's messy hair, much to Annabeth's delight.
After a bus ride that felt way too short, the group of five exited the vehicle and began to make their way across town, with Grover leading.
Running across the streets and empty alleys had already become natural for them, throughout the months they spent together it was among the things they did the most after all, however something was different today because while they were making their way Luke suddenly froze on his spot, his eyes overflowing with rage while the grip on his pole tightened. The baseball bat Christina made for him had long ago broken so now he had to made due with whatever he found on the streets.
Launching himself into an alley while screaming made the rest of the group stop as well. Thalia was the first on to follow, only to stop as well and look into the alley with an angry expression before launching herself in. Annabeth and Christina looked at each other before nodding. Christina pulled her dagger out and went to see into the alley while Grover followed closely behind her. As soon as they peeked in they both froze, leaving them vulnerable enough for the hands that came out of it to grab them.
As soon as their screams from inside the alley stopped, Annabeth went to hide behind a trash can, jus in time to not be seen by the cyclops that came out.
"Huh, it appears there is no one else." said one, receiving a nod from the other one.
Annabeth could only stay hidden behind the trash while despair slowly took her over.
