'Had she been crying?' he wondered, opening the passenger seat next to the driver's seat for her, 'Is this about her mother?'

Bai had no idea she was drowning in her father's gambling debt. He had no idea how much she was suffering. And how could he know? He didn't do any background searches on her family, even though he had the power to do so. Plus, Lai never told him about her family situation.

And she wasn't planning on disclosing any it.

He sat in the driver's seat and started the engine. Lai sat quietly, clearly lost in thought, staring out the window. He began to drive while contemplating if he should ask her what was wrong.

But if she wasn't telling him anything, then clearly, this meant it was not his business to know, right?

He heard her let out a tired sigh.
