AUTUMN

I'm at the side of the stage.

They announce Alex, and he walks out, the crowd erupting like usual. I can't see them, but I can see him - see his blue guitar as he walks toward a mic-stand set in front of a stool. The audience quiets as he sits down and adjusts the height, blue lights casting him in gorgeous dreamy shadows. He strums his instrument, and my chest stomach warms.

"I know I'm supposed to sing ‘Her'..." Alex grins, his fingers playing with the strings. "But I think Autumn might like this one a little more."

The stagehands look to one another. He's playing live in front of an audience. What are they going to do? Stop him because he's playing a different song?

The familiar intro begins, and my heart drums faster.

"I've just seen a face..."
