All of the lights moved deftly, as though they all came from actual people swimming closer. The rook struggled to turn his head in an attempt to make sense of the situation. However, he didn't have to think much to realize that things weren't exactly going in his favor.
With that in mind, he gave up on his initial strategy, instead attempting to rush forward. However, doing so with a shield in front would prove difficult for anybody underwater, and whatever the black liquid was, it was heavier than water.
Various glowing lights began approaching him, all at different speeds and at different times.
In the end, realizing how insufferably slow he was within here, he let himself fall down while putting the shield on his back, trying to lay low like a turtle in an attempt to avoid damage as much as possible.
Hey that rhymes! Or... at least I think it does.
