"Tony, I really don't believe your father would do such a thing, I fought with him and he was a very good man, we were best friends!"
"I'm sorry Captain, I don't really want to talk about anything right now!"
Both Tony and Captain America chose to remain silent as the two made their way past the mechanical spiders and quickly landed on the small, well-lit building.
After carefully scoping it out and finding no traps or swarms of mechanical spider handles, Tony and Captain America exchanged a glance and stepped inside.
"Tony, I really didn't expect you to come!"
The scene inside was nothing like the two of them had imagined, it was like the living room of an ordinary home, small in size but very homely, Howard sat on the sofa with a cup of coffee, taking a sip from time to time, a strangely shaped scepter on his lap, he stared at the TV in front of him without looking back even when he greeted Tony.
Tony and Captain America looked at the TV screen, which was showing the battle between Eric and the Star Child, and it looked as if Eric was even vaguely at a disadvantage.
"Why?" Tony stopped Captain America who wanted to step forward, letting out a slightly dry question.
"Something is wrong with this world and it needs to be fixed!" Howard put down his coffee cup and grabbed the remote to zoom in on the screen, Eric's face taking up almost the entire screen, "This man, he's messing with the timeline! I'm saving the world!"
"But, Eric said that all you'll do is blow up the timeline and plunge the world into destruction!" Captain America stepped forward and gazed at his old friend with a complicated expression.
"Do you believe him or do you believe me?" Howard stared at his old friend and laughed lightly, "Time is like a precision machine, if just one cog changes, then the whole timeline will be implicated. So what if there is one more cog? The machine can only be destroyed! Erik, is that extra cog!"
"But ..." Captain America was about to say something when Tony suddenly stopped him, "I believe you, Father!"
"What?" Captain America was stunned, he didn't expect Tony to go straight to defection!
"There's nothing to be surprised about, we're all Stark!" Tony shrugged, the visor of his battle armor hadn't been lifted and Captain America couldn't see his expression, but he could imagine the look of indifference on Tony's face right now.
"That's right, my son! We are all Stark, and we are destined to save the world together!" Howard stood up happily and reached out to pat Tony on the shoulder.
"Pops, I'll help you, with our brains we'll be able to avoid all mistakes and get the timeline safely back ten years!"
Captain America didn't expect this to happen, he clenched his fists, gritted his teeth and threw the shield in his hand.
The shield aimed for Howard's shoulder, but halfway through its flight it suddenly stopped and hovered in the air, Howard smiled at him and flicked the remote control in his hand, a bizarre ray fell from the roof and shone on the shield.
"I gave this to you, now, I'm taking it back!"
The ray shone on the shield, and the vibranium coating on it melted as quickly as ice and snow meeting sunlight, revealing the Adamantium inside.
Howard watched in puzzlement at the change in the shield, "That's not the one I gave you!"
"Of course not!" Captain America jumped up quickly and kicked the edge of the shield, which immediately flew off, bounced around the room and returned to him, he held it up and stared at his old friend, "Howard, stop it!"
"Hey Captain, will you be quiet!" Tony suddenly raised his arm, a blackened muzzle rising above it.
"BOOM!" There was a muffled sound as a large net shot out from the muzzle of the gun and covered Captain America, the net continued to shrink and soon he was immobile.
"Don't bother, it's made of vibranium!" Tony stepped forward, lifted Captain America and threw him out of the window, "Alright Pops, can we get started!"
"Sure!" Howard gave a meaningful smile and tapped his finger on the remote control, the floor in the room cracked open and a strange machine rose up.
"This is the time machine you built? What is the principle of it? It's actually able to affect the timeline?" Tony circled around the machine curiously, and from time to time he even crouched down to take a closer look at the construction of the machine.
"This technology comes from the Builders, and I found the drawings in the Eye of the Watcher, it's a marvel of technology!" Howard looked at the machine he had made with a look of fascination in his eyes.
"A builder? What's that?" Tony asked curiously.
"The most powerful technological race in the universe, just know that, you'll forget all about that in a minute when the machine starts up anyway." Howard shrugged and put the scepter in his hand.
"And yes, let's get started!" With that, Tony was about to reach out and touch the machine, but Howard stopped him.
"No, wait, we have one more thing to do!" Howard gestured to the TV screen, "We need to get rid of the extra gear first! He's from another universe and has information from another universe attached to him, to prevent information from both universes from interfering with each other we have to eliminate that information before we can restart the timeline."
"How do we eliminate it?"
"By using energy to erase it! Energy so huge it's unimaginable." Howard looked over to the Star Child who was fighting Eric, "Fortunately, we have! If my calculations are correct, then the Star Child should be able to provide 87% of the energy if it explodes."
"And what about the rest?"
"The rest?" Howard smiled, "Eric is a very talented man, especially when it comes to weapons manufacturing, I was expecting the world's first space based weapon to come from you, but I didn't remember that he had beaten you to it."
Howard pressed the remote control and a map of the world was shown on the screen, it was no different to a normal map, the only difference was that there were hundreds of red dots crammed into the sky above Rome.
"In just over a year, the Department of Defence and S.H.I.E.L.D. have placed hundreds of space-based weapons, and this is how Eric squeezed out your reputation as the richest man in the world." Howard bristled, the scepter in his hand pointing at the screen, "But now it's ours! I'd love to see the look on Eric's face, dying under his own weapon must be so suffocating."
"I'm afraid you won't get your wish!" Tony suddenly raised his arm and shot out dozens of missiles, all of which hit the time machine!
