章 201: Issue #6
For the next few weeks, Jack was carefully watching over Jean and Rachel as well as having sending out drones to monitor the Solar System. He wanted to be as prepared as possible for any attack.
But when Jack heard about a Grey Family Reunion, that was when he knew exactly when and where the Shi'ar would strike.
He also knew why the Shi'ar were after the Grey Family. Jean had caused massive destruction when she was the Dark Phoenix so she had a target painted on her back since then. It didn't help that the Phoenix Force already had a bad rep with the Shi'ar since an ancient host also caused them massive destruction.
But there was still one question in his mind.
'Which of the Summers?' Jack asked himself
He had been monitoring Alex and Scott closely. Even if he didn't believe that either of them would attack Jean Grey normally, the leader of the Shi'ar was a telepath and they had many advanced pieces of technology that could control the duo.
Scott was the most likely target in Jack's mind since he was the one closest to Jean so he had warned Logan to keep an eye on him while Polaris was watching over Alex closely.
Jack had even hired some mercenaries to engage Corsair in battle to distract him from getting involved.
'Why do I feel so uneasy?' Jack thought as the day of the Grey Family reunion came upon him. 'I have got each and every member covered with Rachel being watched by Stella and her sisters and the others under close watch. So where is this unease coming from?'
Jack was watching Rachel from a computer monitor. That was when it hit him.
'It's not a present Summers. It's a timetraveler,' Jack hurried to contact Magik, Tempus, and Sway. These were the only three mutants he knew that could manipulate time to some extent.
'Have any of you sensed any temporal anomalies? Anything at all?' Jack asked the three women after reaching out to their minds
'Not exactly how my powers work. Can't help ya there,' Magik was the first to reply. She could travel through time with her stepping disks but she could barely control it, even less talking about sensing temporal energy.
'I can only slow down or stop time in my immediate area. I have no idea what goes on with time travelers,' Sway was also no help. Her powers made her useful against mo ing objects or people but she couldn't actually travel through time
'I'm just a worse combination of both of them. I got no idea,' Tempus was the most recent of the trio to awaken her mutation and had the least control over it. She was more likely to accidentally send herself to the Jurassic Period than to go back 5 minutes in time
'Ugh. Thanks anyways,' Jack felt a headache. He was hoping that this was the answer but he had no way to prove it now.
'By the way, when is Vulcan getting back? I haven't seen him in a few weeks,' Sway asked Jack before he broke the connection
And that was when Jack put it together. He had been focusing on every Summers family member except the one he thought he had as his ally.
Jack was just about to send out a warning when it all happened at once.
[Boss. We got a Shi'ar hit squad who teleported in and is attacking the Grey Family. They came so suddenly that we already lost 70% of the family members.] Jack got a message over his comms at the same time he received a text from Logan
[Vulcan is attacking us! What's the big deal, Frosty?!]
"Fuck!" Jack shouted as he began to move. 'Magik. Get anyone near you and head to the coordinates I'm sending you immediately. I gotta handle Vulcan!'
Jack teleported to the Institute and saw Vulcan sending a massive blase of flames and electricity toward Scott and Jean.
Jack immediately created a barrier of mystical black ice and cosmic ice in front of the pair, blocking the attack.
Everyone saw this and noticed that Jack had arrived. Scott turned and glared at Jack before yelling at him.
"You turned my own brother against me? I will...," but Jack didn't let him finish before teleporting himself and Vulcan to a distant galaxy that he knew had no life in it or way to sustain it.
He was hoping that Vulcan would be immediately put down since there was no air but it seemed like Jack had underestimated Vulcan's powers.
Vulcan could not only control energy on an Omega-Level and use it in various forms but he could also absorb it as well. That meant anything from mystical energy to psionic energy would just empower Vulcan instead of harming him. And it seemed that Vulcan had come prepared. Jack could feel Vulcan was on the level of Odin with the raw amount in energy in his body.
"What have you done? How have you absorbed that much energy?" Jack asked incredulously
"100 stars," Vulcan replied with a sadistic smile. "As well as whatever energy I got from those fools that used their weapons to try and stop me."
"Why have you betrayed us? We were building something great!" Jack was furious as he saw Vulcan begin to gather energy within his arms. He thought that Vulcan saw the same dream as him and wanted to join it as well.
"Why should I be under anyone? I am the strongest mutant to every exist! I can do what you can't!" Vulcwn went into his villain monolog. "After I kill Jean and Rachel, I will wait for the Phoenix Force to come here and absorb all of its energy until no being can stand against me! I will be the emperor of this entire galaxy!"
"Cool. So you've fallen to the Dark Side, Anakin. If you've seen the prequels, you should know how this will end," Jack began to gather cold energy within him. He was hoping that his cold energy one of the few types that Vulcan could not absorb. Cause if not, it would be a long period of going fist to fist with him.
The battle between the strongest mutants was about to begin
