After everything I had endured over the years of Sam’s bullying, I should have been frilled that he was hurting now. But I wasn’t, despite the fact I was still damaged in a lot of places. I couldn’t bring myself to hate him anymore, perhaps it made me a better person, and in itself, that was a victory. Though now that I was older, I recognised Sam's life had been anything but a fairy tale. Our mother had left him when Sam was only five years old; to a father who had never truly loved him. Whether Anna had done so willingly or not, we will never know.

It wasn’t until Sam was fifteen that our father showed any interest in him. Dad had forced my brother to drop out of school to prove himself in the club's ranks. He’d knowingly forged Sam into a monster of his own creation, willing to do the club’s dirty work in an attempt to earn our fathers praise. But the only time Dean had paid any attention to Sam was when he was barking order or giving him a beating.
