You are walking through the scriptorium toward the western exit when running footsteps approach behind you. It is Abdul, not looking especially happy, and Esme, her face radiant with the thrill of discovery.
"It's another exit!" she enthuses. "The southern passage leads to another exit on the south side of the rock. That riddle panel you solved must have controlled both doors."
You fill Esme in on what you have discovered so far and then set off again into the western chamber.
The room at the other end is tiny, barely larger than a storage closet. You all manage to squeeze in, packed together uncomfortably tightly. It is another bare, rock-cut room, but the room itself is uninteresting.
What is interesting are the large bronze cupboard doors set halfway up the wall at neck height like a modern wall-mounted safe. The doors are held closed by a huge iron padlock, still functioning after all these years.
"That's it," gasps Sam. "That has to be it! That's where you'd keep a treasure like Urim and Thummim, surely!"
You have to agree, but your senses are tingling. This is precisely the type of setting in which people set death traps.
