The next morning, Gretal had me up just past dawn. The sun was peeking through the trees and sparkling off the drops of dew on the plants in the courtyard.
I was in love with that courtyard. I wanted to spend my day there, but that was not to be. We had places to go and things to see. But I was determined to spend some time in that quiet place at some point and enjoy the experience of it.
We stopped at a café down the street for a latte and a pain au chocolat, or chocolate croissant as I knew it as. It was so surreal. There I was sitting on the streets of Paris sipping my coffee and eating a delicate pastry. Never in my wildest dreams had any of that occurred. Now I was there actually doing it and enjoying it immensely.
We found our way through the streets and jumped on the Metro which took us within a few blocks of Notre Dame. By seven we were standing in front of the centuries old building.
