章 43: Chapter Forty Three: Coming to a Decision (2)
The three of them go on to finish their bath, dry off, and get dressed. Rose, being a spirit, simply has to wave her hand for her usual attire to appear on her body while Serena and Eris have to put on their clothes. Eris is now dressed in a white nightgown and her, Serena, and Rose split up to their separate rooms. Eris lays down soft on the bed and pulls the covers up to her face. She breathes a heavy sigh as she thinks about what she's experienced, bith in this life and in her life as Alexia.
"This is all just so strange," she whispers to herself, "Will I even be any good at managing an entire country? I did it in the game, but these are actual, real-life people, not a bunch of NPCs that are happy with just food and water. Am I qualified at all for leading a kingdom?"
A familiar voice rings in her head, "I think you should go for it."
This time, instead of frantically looking for the source of the sound, Eris simply sits up on her bed, "You're back. I haven't heard from you in a couple of weeks. Are you here to simply annoy me or…."
"I'm here to give you advice. Your mind is very conflicted right now, so I thought that I'd help you out."
"Really? So far you've only managed to turn me into some kind of monster. I almost killed one of my subordinates because of you. Just who are you?" Eris asks with an angered expression.
"Now what's the fun in telling you that so soon?" asks the voice with a mischievous tone, "I will tell you this much. I am not what you think I am. And you are not what you think you are."
"What the hell is that supposed to mean?"
"All will be revealed soon enough. I look forward to our next chat. Goodbye."
WIth that, the room falls silent, "Damn it. I seriously don't like how all this feels. I know that I loved horror movies as Alexia but I don't want to be stuck in one."
Eris lays back down in her bed, and falls asleep, knowing that something is off. She knows that she wasn't transferred into this world just because whatever higher being that was out there found her situation unfair and took pity on her. All throughout the night, these thoughts, along with apprehension about what the future holds, weighs in the back of her mind as she sleeps.
The night quickly passes and the next day, Eris goes to the library to learn new spells while Serena and Rose train in the arena. Eris is sitting down at the table in the center in the massive library reading a book with the title, Dragon Magic, Intermediate Guide. On the table, there's a wine glass filled with blood, and Lulu stands beside her in her normal attire. Eris breathes a heavy sigh as Serena's words from yesterday are still lingering in her mind.
"Is everything okay, Empress? Are you having trouble learning dragon magic perhaps?" Lulu asks with a lifeless expression.
"No. Dragon magic is similar to fire magic so it's not that much of a problem. It's just the issue with the vampire nation. I'm still trying to decide whether or not to take it over," Eris answers.
"May I ask why you are hesitating?"
"I'm just concerned about the people's reaction. I know how to help a kingdom, I know how to protect, and I have the power to protect them. But will the people really just accept someone who just shows up randomly and takes the throne? I can't imagine all of them will be happy about my coming."
"May I speak freely, Empress?"
"Of course."
"There have been many different rulers throughout history in many different places. They all ruled different ways, but there's one thing they all have in common, and that is the fact that they made mistakes. In my opinion, there's no such thing as the perfect ruler. Any ruler will have subjects that are unhappy with the way they run their countries, but that comes with being a ruler. Not all of your decisions will make your subjects happy, Empress. You should just do what you believe is the right thing. And know that all of us within this castle will be there for you, and aid you should you find yourself in need," Lulu explains with a small smile at the end.
Once again, Eris finds herself at a loss for words. Even though much of her family was either not interested, or too busy to help her, that is not the case anymore. In this strange new world, she has people to rely on. For the first time since she was given this second chance, she feels like she has a family. Eris smiles and closes the book that she's reading.
"Thanks, Lulu. I appreciate it."
"There's nothing to thank me for, your highness. I was only speaking what's in the heart and mind of all who serve under you. I'm glad that what I said brightened your mood."
"Not only did it make me happy, but it also helped me make my decision. Call all of the commanders as well as Serena and Rose to the throne room," Eris orders.
"I shall do so at once."
