章 42: Chapter Forty Two: Coming to a decision (1)
Meanwhile, back at Eris' castle in the old capital ruins, the vampire is currently in the bath with Serena and Rose. All of them wear towels around their torsos to cover their private areas, and all three of them seem to be greatly relaxed. They all wear a smile on their faces as the heated bath seems to wash their worries away.
"Since when did the physical world have such nice baths?" Rose asks after a relaxed sigh.
"Did they not have hot springs in the spirit realm?" Serena questions.
"Hm… the closest things to something like this were the lakes in the volcanic realm where the fire spirits lived. But it's way too hot for any other spirit other than a fire spirit to even set foot in that place. I'm honestly shocked that those baths didn't evaporate. Lucky bastards."
"Hold on, if a fire spirit went into water, wouldn't that weaken it?" Eris asks.
"It would, but like I said before, it's really hot in their realm. Plus, the only thing that can harm a spirit in the spirit realm is another spirit. Even if the fire spirits were weakened, they wouldn't stay like that for too long after getting out of the water and there'd be little threat of them getting attacked then and there," the spirit explains.
"Interesting. Is there anything else about this world that you like better than the spirit realm?"
"Hm… the food's a lot better," says Rose, answersing Serena's question.
"Hold on, if you're an ultimate spirit, then you must have been treated like royalty while you were in the spirit realm. I'm surprised you didn't have good food there," says Eris with a crooked eye.
"Indeed I was. Ultimate spirits are the step before spirit gods after all. In fact, I was about to ascend to godhood before being summoned by you two. However, the food wasn't bad, it just wasn't great. The food in this castle on the other hand is incredible."
"Oh, I'm glad you like it. Wait a second… you were about to evolve into a spirit god?!" asks Eris with widened eyes.
"That's right. But when I say, 'about to,' it would at least have taken me another fifty years to do so. But with my new master Serena, it'll be much sooner until I evolve," Rose answers with a cheerful expression.
"Speaking of royalty, Eris, have you taken any more time to think about taking over Rimore?" Serena asks.
Eris' relaxed expression quickly turns to one of seriousness and she sighs and answers, "Listen, it's not as if I'm opposed to the idea, per say. I'm just not sure about the citizens of Rimore. I don't think that they'd like some random vampire, claiming to be the progenitor, just showing up and taking the throne. And if I take it with force, then my citizens will hate me even more. I'd be opening myself up to a coup."
"Then prove your blood that you're worthy of the throne."
"And how would I do that?"
"Unlike the human's, whose ruler is chosen from bloodline, the ruler of Rimore is chosen based on strength. You see, for humans, the king or queen rules for as long as they live. But if that were the case for vampires…"
"Then there wouldn't be any chance for someone to take the throne," Eris says, finishing Serena's answer.
"That's right. Every hundred years, a tournament is held to determine the new vampire ruler for the next hundred years, and the king or queen at the time can also participate if they want to keep ruling."
"But wouldn't that open up the throne to any idiodic muscle head off the street?"
"That's why the contestants are chosen from the noble houses and from anyone the noble houses recommend. There are a total of forty noble houses in Rimore, including my own. From birth, the children of each house are trained to fight, and tutored so that they know how to operate a kingdom."
"But then, wouldn't the noble house whose children won the rights to the throne be left without an heir?"
"Yeah, but then they can have another child. Vampires are immortal after all, but we don't really have a high level of fertility. So it can take several years for two vampires to have a child."
"Huh. The vampire society here is rather interesting. So you're saying that if I beat the current king in a fight, then I'll prove myself worthy of taking the throne?"

Serena nods and answers, "There's a crystal that was made by the blood of both of the progenitors. We use it to find those with blood ties to the progenitors. If someone with the blood of the progenitors gets close to it, it glows a bit. Who knows what will happen if you get close to it."
"But what if you're wrong about me? What if I'm not who you think I am and the crystal does not glow at all?"
Serena smiles and shakes her head, "I know it'll work. I believe in you. There are many vampires who think that the prophecy is nothing more than a bedtime story, but not me. I've seen your power for myself. You destroyed hundreds of monsters by yourself. You defeated the most powerful monster I've ever seen before. You're stronger than any vampire, and you look just like the legends say. I know who you are, and I know that you can save us all."
Eris is struck by the young vampire's words. She's utterly speechless as Serena looks at her with a warm smile. For her entire life, she's been the one that needed help. She's been the one who was hurting and felt helpless. But now, she has power that can rival that of a god. She has the influence, knowledge, and charisma that are required to be a great ruler. She has the ability to help those in need, an ability that she never possessed in her life as Alexia. Not only that, but she has many people who believe in her when she only had two in her last life.
"Thanks Serena," says Eris, returning Serena's warm smile with her own, "Please give me a bit more time to think on it."
