"How could you let this happen?" Wanda's eyes glittered with sadness, red energy still vigorously moving around her. "Why didn't you protect him?!"
Nagato regarded her from a distance, carefully choosing his words. It was the most crucial part of his plan. If he couldn't persuade her to join him with no reservations, then she would have to die. "I should have predicted that your brother would attack Tony immediately. It's partly my fault."
"We should have never come to this place at all!" Wanda shouted, not even knowing where to direct her anger anymore. She just felt so hopeless, weak.
"Enough, Wanda," Nagato answered, taking a few steps towards her. "Grieving for his death won't change anything right now, for you will feel this agonizing pain for the rest of your life."
"So what should I do then!?" More tears rolled down her face, falling to the ground with a plop. "Do you even understand what it feels like?!"
Nagato stopped, inspecting her with curiosity. She was broken - all dear people to her died, and she couldn't even direct this hatred at anyone since Tony was also gone. "There is still a way to save your brother."
"What?" Wanda's confusion was evident in her expression, though not for long. As she glanced at Pietro's lifeless body, energy exploded out of her even more violently. "Stop lying to me!"
"I am not." Nagato stepped even closer to her, opposing the pressure with ease. "By obtaining all the Infinity Stones, I could change whatever I possibly wanted. I could reconstruct the entire universe, and reviving your brother would be nothing but a trivial matter to me."
Wanda stopped, regarding the red-haired man. She clearly knew the power Infinity Stones held - maybe Nagato wasn't lying after all. "Don't think you can trick me that easily. I don't know your intentions...maybe you would destroy the entire universe as soon as you get the stones."
'She still has some common sense. Anger hasn't blinded her entirely.' Nagato thought, standing next to Wanda a few feet apart. "I understand your preservation. Initially, I have thought that by making every person feel the same pain, they would eventually understand each other. However, my assumption was wrong."
"Everyone handles pain differently." Nagato glanced into the sky, noting that they were already extremely high in the air. "Some people keep on living as if nothing happened, ignoring the sharp pain in their hearts. Some people seek the path of redemption, yet only feel emptiness afterward. And the rest just embrace it like it was always a part of them."
"In the end, peace could never be achieved by normal means." Nagato looked Wanda straight in the eyes, noting the uncertainty in them. "It's only possible with absolute power, with the infinity stones. And I will reach my goal by any means possible."
"This..." Wanda noticed the determination in Nagato's eyes.
"If you don't believe me, then use your powers." Nagato extended his hand forth, his face unreadable. "Glimpse into the future."
The force around Wanda somewhat loosened up as she reluctantly took a step forward, extending her hand to touch Nagato. Their fingers collided with each other, and Wanda felt her consciousness quivering.
In an instant, the surroundings transformed into something entirely different. An extensive field formed within her sight, illuminated with sunshine falling from above. Pietro and Wanda stood in the middle of it, smiling as they talked with each other.
The scene seemed so peaceful, just how Wanda envisioned their lives after dealing with Avengers. She wanted to stay there forever, but the scene disappeared from her vision before she could even appreciate it.
Nagato regarded her shaking body, grasping the rod behind his back. If the future didn't satisfy her, then Nagato would attack when she least expected it.
'My powers never lied to me...' Wanda thought, calming down herself. Pietro still could be saved. He had to be saved. Wanda rubbed her face, removing all the tears. It was truly not the time to grieve for his death, for she had to steal that stone from Ultron.
"I guess you have made your decision." Nagato slipped the rod back into his sleeve, and Wanda nodded. The sadness in her eyes was no longer visible, only determination.
"You will follow my orders with no hesitations. Whether it's destroying an entire village or assassinating someone, it's all for the sake of the greater good." Nagato reminded her, feeling the ground trembling even more. "You understand this much, don't you?"
Somewhat reluctantly, but Wanda still nodded.
She would do whatever it takes to once again feel that contentment.
"Good." Nagato nodded, noticing all the force around Wanda calming down. Fatigue conquered her entire body as soon as the adrenaline vanished from her blood, making her a bit wobbly.
The battle with Tony took both physical and mental stroll on her. It was incredibly exhausting, however, she still couldn't rest. Wanda had to help Nagato to get that stone.
"Andrew, take her into the ship," Nagato said, seeing a person walk out from around the corner.
Wanda barely turned her body around, only to see a dark-haired man approaching them. "But...what about me?"
"I only brought you here to deal with Iron man." Nagato lied without even fazing, springing into the air. "Ultron and Thor are mine."
Wanda nodded, succumbing to the fatigue and relaxing her entire body. Her consciousness slipped away immediately, but Andrew caught her in his embrace.
"How did it go?" Andrew asked.
"Perfectly."
Andrew nodded, picking up Wanda's motionless body. "I know they aren't an obstacle for you, but still be careful."
Nagato didn't answer, rising even higher into the air. The final battle was about to begin, and Nagato knew Ultron was waiting for him. However, he has yet to understand that even with Mind Stone's power, he didn't have a single chance to resist Nagato.
"Take Tony as well and retreat before the battle started," Nagato added before flying away. "I will need him in the future."
