章 11: Infodump Uno

Since Alchemist was essentially two 'not so effective' people in one hero, it was tough to say how the abilities would actually apply to Michael...

So, there were three categories from what he could tell... At least, if his knowledge from the game was actually accurate.

Mechanical/Equipment reliant heroes, these heroes are essentially the people who needed a tool to be effective, and this, wouldn't scale very well as Michael progressively got more powerful... Sure, they might be strong early on, but that relied on him having to actually build the tools and equipment they used... Considering some of the heroes in the list literally had mech suits... It didn't look likely.

The heroes in this group are as followed.

Alchemist, who in the game has four abilities... Acid Spray, which would cover a large area in acid that'd presumably melt whoever stepped in it. Unstable Concoction, a timed explosive that more often than not went off in Alchemist's hands. Greevil's Greed, which gave gold coins whenever you killed something, and Chemical Rage, a massive stag boost that gave a big healing factor for the duration...

Batrider, an insane pyromaniac who rides a giant bat and throws Molotov cocktails on people... His first ability was Sticky Napalm, that allowed him to throw an oil-like substance that'd massive increase someone's vulnerability to fire, Flamebreak(A Molotov Cocktail), Firefly, which in-game made his bat fly up into the air as he dropped large amounts of fire onto the ground below(Michael was very unsure how this would actually function if he got it), and Flaming Lasso, a powerful ability that bound someone in flaming ropes for an extended period of time.

Clockwerk, essentially just a dude in mechanical armour... As a testament to just how bad he was as a hero and a mechanic, hi first ability was 'Battery Assault', which was literally just his armour malfunctioning and shooting out pieces of metal as it fell apart... He did have Power Cogs though, which when summoned and touched would drain mana and deal damage... Though, his third ability was basically useless... A flare... Yeah, a flare... Last but maybe least, was Hookshot, Clockwerk's ultimate ability that'd shoot out a grappling hook that stuns anyone it hits and pulls him to them...

Gyrocopter, now this one might actually be useful at some point if Michael managed to create the required tools... Gyrocopter was essentially just a crazy old man riding around in a makeshift aircraft... First ability was Rocket Barrage, second was Homing Missile, third was Flak Cannon, and forth was Call Down, which unleashed an incredibly powerful explosion on a target in the distance...

Snapfire, an old lady who rode a mechanical harness that was attached to the back of a large Salamander creature... Would this force Michael to capture a Salamander and built the harness just to use her abilities?... Her abilities weren't even worth mentioning, as it was just more projectile weapons plus her Salamander's instinctive abilities like flame breath...

Sniper, literally just a dude with a gun... Michael was pretty adamant on not picking it, as guns would only take you so far in a world where literal dragons and magic exist... Not to mention the fact he'd probably need to build a specialized gun and constantly produce ammo, one of the worst options.

And the last three, Techies, Tinker, and Timbersaw... The former was three people in a cart full of explosives, Tinker was a guy wearing an incredibly high-tech mech suit, and Timbersaw was a midget scared of tree's, that build a mech suit purely designed for destroying them.

Michael shakes his head at the list, the only ones he would consider if no other options were given would be Alchemist, for the potential knowledge he might be able to glean from it. Gyrocopter, for the ability to create an aircraft in a medieval world... And Tinker, for the ability to create a mech suit capable of teleporting around and other crazy things.

Michael even wondered how gaining stats would actually affect any machine he built... In the game heroes like Timbersaw could gain strength and other stats, but logically that wouldn't affect the machine he was riding around in, right?... Unless he was completely misinterpreting the functions of his abilities.

Anyway, aside from the Mechical/Tool reliant heroes, there was also heroes that either weren't all that useful, or had abilities that had the potential to really screw Michael's body... Chief among them being Bristleback...

Bristleback was a humanoid armadillo-like creature, with a shell on his back completely covered with large quills. Even his head and arms were covered... Sure, many heroes were unsightly, but Bristleback was one of the few who was reliant on his physical eccentricities to actually fight...

His first ability was 'VISCOUS NASAL GOO', which, while effective in the game, sounded utterly disgusting and useless in real life... Basically, you shot out a large volume of snot from your nose that'd slow people and decrease their armour... Just imagining himself leaking so much snot that he was able to pull this off made Michael shudder.

His second ability was quill spray, where he fired quills from his back to harm people in the vicinity... Combined with his 'Bristleback' ability that massively reduced any damage that hit him from behind, while also firing additional quills, it was very effective in the game...

His ultimate was Warpath, likely the only useful ability in his entire kit, which would increase Bristleback's speed and strength depending on how many abilities he'd used in quick succession.

This was a good example of a dangerous hero to pick, Michael could think of others that were worse waiting for him though... Specifically, Pudge... That guy was literally made of corpses, and would get stronger the more flesh was added to his body...

章 12: Infodump Dos

The next hero in this list would most definitely be 'Meepo'...

Meepo actually had the potential to be incredibly broken, but also carried the most risks... He had the ability to split himself into different permanent forms... Four different Meepo's without external assistance(Aghanims Scepter). This was good, but there were a few problems... The main one being that each Meepo was an independent individual who could think and act for themselves... They were Shadowclones but worse... As if any single Meepo died, the rest would all follow.

This combined with the fact that the clone Meepo's were generally weaker than the main one, made Michael very, very sceptical about picking it... Not to mention how it wouldn't be useful in his current situation... If Louise saw two of himself sitting on her floor, he imagined she'd kill one of 'him' to save her the trouble.

His other abilities weren't too great either, pretty useless unless you had many Meepo's using them at once... Yeah, this hero would wait on the sidelines until Michael was sure it wouldn't kill him.

Next hero was Ogremagi, which could be summed up as thus; Only useful if you had the body of an Ogre... His abilities were awful, and the only reason he was good in-game was because he was so physically strong that it didn't matter... With crappy flame spells, one good buff spell, and an ultimate that may or may not endanger everyone around him... Michael easily crossed this one out.

Last hero in this list was Pangolier, who had the same problem as Bristleback, a humanoid with a hard shell on his back that, while being a good swordsman, also utilised his shell in his abilities...

Which leads to the last category... Heroes that Michael thought were actually useful...

Beastmaster, a caveman-looking guy who has control over, you guessed it, beasts. His first ability is called 'Flying Axes', which allows him to throw them and somewhat dictate their direction as they move. They're like boomerangs as they eventually return back to him, useful.

His second ability is a two in one called Call of the Wild Boar, and Bird. Allowing him to summon helpfully creatures that'd allow him to scout areas or fight directly. Michael wasn't sure how this would actually work, but knew it might be like taming or something.

Third is his arsenal is a passive ability called Inner Beast that boosts his and his allies attack speed... Very useful when you consider that Beastmaster usually has a small army of animals accompanying him.

Last but certainly not least, his Primal Roar, a shout that causes a shockwave that stuns everyone caught in it... Michael almost wanted to pick Beastmaster for this ability alone, as being able to shout someone apart like the Dragonborn didn't seem all that bad...

Next is Bounty Hunter... This hero is kind of similar to the first category, as they need Shurikens to function, but their abilities more than makeup for it. First ability is obviously Shuriken toss, dealing massive damage to those it hits, second is Jinada, a critical melee attack that deals a good amount of bonus damage, Shadowwalk, which makes Bounty Hunter invisible for a while, and finally Track... Track in the game allows you to 'Track' an enemy, making you aware of their presence at all times, while also granting bonus gold when you kill them.

Again, Michael isn't sure how the bonus gold really functions outside of the game, but having incredible tracking capabilities, plus invisibility and damage will never be bad.

Next up is Dark Willow, a Fay-fairy thing that has relatively powerful magic... Her first ability allows her to summon a maze of magical brambles that damage and root anyone it catches... Second, is called Shadowrealm, that allows Dark Willow to hide in the shadows while also charging up a magical bolt that gets stronger the longer she is hidden. Her third ability is called Cursed Crown, it's essentially just a delayed Area-Of-Effect stun that locked onto its target, making it incredibly hard to avoid through conventional means.

Last is her ultimate, which is split into two abilities, both requiring the presence of her pet Wisp called Jex... Bedlam which frees the Wisp and allows it to do massive damage to foes around Dark Willow, and Terrorize, which throws the Wisp at an area as it fears everyone nearby, causing them to run in terror for a while. Michael isn't sure how the abilities using Wisp would actually function, but the other abilities are good enough for him to consider picking Dark Willow.

Hoodwink is next, but her abilities are all a bit crappy aside from one... She needs a Crossbow to function, but that isn't really hard to acquire if Michael really wanted to... Her first ability is shooting an Acord that bounces off of things and does damage... Kinda weird. Her second is a thrown Bola that stuns anyone caught in it if they're near a tree... Third is her only 'good' ability in Michael's opinion... Scurry, granting Hoodwink great agility while in nearby trees, giving her bonus movement speed and evasion against attacks... Aside from that, her ultimate ability is SharpShooter, allowing her to snipe a target in the distance, dealing massive damage... Again, this one's on the sidelines.

The next Hero on the list makes Hoodwink look like a joke though, Riki... For anyone whose played the game, they are all too aware of how annoyingly powerful this guy is. With abilities that are as aggravating and rage-inducing as they are strong...

His first ability is called Smokescreen, covering an area in smoke that both blinds, silences, and slows... Anyone caught inside is basically dead if Riki wills it, though, Michael is unsure if smokescreen is as a result of magic, or a smokebomb...

His second ability is called Blink Strike, allowing Riki to teleport behind someone and attack at his leisure. Obviously, any teleportation is going to be overpowered, especially in a world where Mages aren't all that physically strong. Next, his third ability is called 'Tricks of the Trade', which literally allows him to fade from existence and attack everyone in an area for a couple of seconds.

Lastly, his ultimate is called Cloak and Dagger, allowing Riki to be invisible 100% of the time, only coming out if he's attacking someone. That's not all though, it also grants him massive damage whenever he attacks someone from behind... Michael can't help but salivate at all of this, but manages to hold himself back from instantly picking it when he realises that such abilities wouldn't help him right now...
