章 15: XV

Helen glanced at Aurora with a wronged expression. She was not happy about the new development at all and she knew her master's teacher was responsible for it.

"Go to sleep, Helen," Aurora ordered when she felt someone staring at her back in a way that made her feel uncomfortable. "You need rest," Aurora added knowing why her maid was staring at her in that manner.

"I know you were asked to leave me here by the witch," Helen murmured to the hearing of her master.

Aurora suddenly sat up wearing a displeased frown. "The seer," she corrected seriously.

"The seer told you to leave me here, right?" Helen asked knowing her assumption was right. Her master agreed in the capital but suddenly changed after meeting the witch.

"Whatever she says wouldn't matter unless it is for my benefit and yours too," Aurora replied her and slowly laid down on the bed again and closed her eyes. "I really want to rest well today, Helen. So stop whining," Aurora calmly ordered her as she tried to go to sleep.

"l can protect myself. You don't need to protect me rather I will protect you and make sure you kill the Alpha king," Helen said with determination.

"Shh," Aurora said putting her index finger on her lips after she turned to face her maid hurriedly. "You should not speak of we plan to do in here again," Aurora warned her and continued closing her eyes.

"I am sorry," her maid bowed her head and pouted her lower lips in embarrassment.

"Go to sleep Helen."

"Okay," Helen finally agreed and laid on the smaller bed quietly. She was going to try her best to remain awake no matter what so her master won't try to sneak out when she falls asleep.

"Viktor is on the border outside the city on the west border camp, right?" Aurora suddenly asked about her cousin brother.

"…"

"…" Aurora shook her head baffled. She knew Helen was very reluctant to sleep but the girl was already fast asleep faster than her who wanted to sleep so badly.

She slowly stood up from the bed and walked to their packed leather bags. She glanced at Helen who she knew will definitely sleep lightly after only an hour of sleep and that is because of the fatigue of the journey or Helen is always a light sleeper.

This was the best time for her to head away to the gate of the city which will be locked at this time and heavily guarded to put the people at ease although they hardly have cases of bandits attack. She could stay there till dawn and leave the city or she could also leave this night if she succeeds in persuading the guards to let her leave.

Helen groaned tiredly and she hung her bag on her shoulder and walked out of the door.

Helen who was supposed to be sleeping suddenly sat up and looked at the door that was closed behind her master and frowned. It was very easy for her to fool Aurora.

Riding down the less busy road of the city with most of the doors and windows locked as she passed by, Aurora looked back at the inn she left which was far from her now to see fire.

She was shocked. She really thought she was seeing things but when she stopped her horse and looked back at the inn, the fire was spreading fast with the dry air serving as a very good medium for it burn faster.

She pulled the reins and the horse galloped faster than she has rode in a while back towards the inn. She began thanking her stars that they were given the room on the top floor despite not wanting to stay that high or she will never have noticed it coupled with the fact that the room that was now burning in flames was the room she just walked out of less than an hour ago.

Helen stare of welfare at this moment was all that bothered her. People must have noticed the fire because they were now gathering with buckets of water to try to stop the water and trying to save the lives of those in the inn.

Aurora stole a bucket of water from one of the men running to the inn and poured it all over herself before running into the inn. She ran up stairs to her room where the fire was spreading from.

She hoped and begged her star that Helen was alive. She had a very bad feeling about the fire. Helen was clearly asleep when she left and she doesn't have any idea how the fire started. What if she was the target?

There were so many people who want to kill her in the capital but outside the capital with the disguise she now wore, she did not know anyone who wants her dead.

She has not offended anyone on their journey for her to deserve death. In fact she has avoided people almost like avoiding a plague. Why then does anyone want to kill her or Helen?

The door was on fire but she pushed it open and walked into the burning room to see her maid's figure on the bed struggling to free herself from the ropes that bind her hands and feet together.

She cut the rope with her pocket knife. "Are you okay?"

"Hmm," Helen replied with a strong nod as she used her cloth to cover her mouth.

"Who did this to you?" Aurora asked as she supported her up from the bed and headed towards the door to leave the room.

"A man . . .," Helen replied and coughed hard. "I don't know. He covered his face but it was definitely a man."

"Let us leave. I will find a physician to check you. Are you injured?" Aurora asked worriedly. If only she had not left perhaps she would have been able to protect Helen.

"He asked for you but I told him I don't know where you went to," Helen told her.

Aurora hurried to leave the inn because of the new feeling she felt that the building was about to collapse. "We need to hurry or either of us won't alive."

Helen nodded in agreement. "I can make it out fast. I am okay except for the smoke I have inhaled."

"Okay," Aurora said and they both headed down the stone steps fast until they got to the last floor and finally made it out of the building.

The people outside who have concluded that the young man who entered will never make it out alive have all watched the fire of the inn reduce minutes after the young man ran in and when he got to the door, the fire had stopped completely.

As soon as the young man walked out supporting some one else, the building collapsed to the floor right from the top floor to the ground with a very loud sound.
