章 76: Kicking beast
With a light throw, Scyther's Pokeball hit the ground and a small *pop* sound was heard before a two-meter-tall green bug Pokémon appeared. Its scythe-like arms shimmered with a cold light. Scyther was already good to go and was waiting silently for Blaine's Pokémon. His stare surprised Blaine as it was rare for a Pokémon to have such a gaze. Especially one as young as the one in front of him. Even when under this amount of heat, it didn't flinch nor show any reaction.
Naturally, Scyther had been tempered like steel under the hard and fiery punches of Machoke over and over again. This little heat was nothing to him. Blaine didn't hesitate either and pointed forward.
Blaine "we have a strong opponent Arcanine." A shadow flashed past the old man and a slightly smaller, 1.8-meter-tall orange dog appeared opposite Scyther. It was already rare to see a Scyther match an Arcanine in height, much less surpass him completely.
Arcanine attempted to intimidate his opponent by baring his teeth. But this only earn him a disdainful look from Scyther. His little brother was way more majestic and scarier than this little dog. Rex could only sigh at his reaction. He wasn't surprised, compared to his Arcanine, the one Scyther was currently facing was barely comparable.
Blaine "The battle will be a three-on-three battle, the challenger is the only one allowed to substitute his Pokémon," he said calmly. Rex simply nodded, nothing out of the normal for a gym.
Not wanting to waste any time, Blaine commanded Arcanine to perform a fire fang. Rex nodded, it was a good move, flying was neutral, and bug was weak to it. But it wouldn't work.
Rex "Scyther, use double team and leer," he said quickly. Scyther did as told and duplicated himself into ten which moved to surround the running Arcanine. What was amazing was that every time Arcanine moved in one direction, the circle made of Scyther's would too. This maintained the formation and stopped it from collapsing by one of the Scyther's breaking away due to being under threat.
Before Arcanine could chomp down on the Scyther he had finally caught, a blinding light surrounded him from every angle. He had to immediately close his eyes which forced him to miss the attack.
Rex "good, now use swords dance," he said calmly. While the ten Scyther's did the same exact dance, Rex was observing the terrain for any advantage he could use. There were only loose stones and small boulders. Just as he was about to give up, he got an idea.
Rex "Scyther, smash all the boulders in the surroundings." What he said confused Blaine, but Scyther had long learned to trust Rex, no matter the order. As he did so, the boulders on the field shattered one by one leaving only small rocks everywhere on the ground.
Rex "Good, now stomp the ground and use double kick on the stones," he said quickly. Scyther didn't hesitate and smashed his foot down on the ground making it tremble slightly before the stones that originally lay on the floor quietly, began to fly into the air. Next, Scyther could be seen flashing everywhere in the air. He was sending small stones streaking across the field and smashing into Arcanine like bullets from a rifle. His legs had been trained to the extreme. It was all to prepare him for when he evolved. After all, Scizor couldn't fly.
Arcanine couldn't dodge the rocks and was therefore pelted over and over again, the speed was terrifying. Blaine was shocked, he didn't think a Scyther that had blades for hands would use its feet instead. But he didn't have much time to think as he saw Arcanine sustaining more and more damage.
Blaine "Arcanine that's enough, use heat wave!" he said quickly. Arcanine, still being hit by stones, amassed tons of heat inside of him before exploding it outwards in all directions. Rex didn't react to this since he had a trump card for unavoidable moves like this.
Rex "Scyther, use protect!" he said with a smile. Scyther conjured a shield around him that took the wave of sweltering heat perfectly. Blaine's face drooped into a frown. He didn't know that Scyther had that move.
Rex "use air slash!" he said, not giving any time for Blaine to think. Arcanine who was regaining his footing after the barrage of vicious rocks didn't have time to react to slash after slash of compressed air, cleaving at his body like a butcher to meat. Blaine was starting to sweat, but it was difficult to know if it was due to the heat or the pressure.
Rex "Scyther, end this, use aerial ace!" He had been training with Scyther on how to put out the most damage in that window of time where his attacks couldn't miss. And this was the result. Scyther flash stepped beside Arcanine and kicked his stomach, effectively folding him in half. Arcanine was licking his toes as he was sent rocketing into the air. Scyther didn't stop and flashed again appearing on top of him before releasing a deadly axe kick to his back. Folding him the other way. Arcanine who was just going up was sent back down mercilessly.
Just when it thought it was over, Scyther reappeared below it and simply kicked forward, smashing his foot into Arcanine's side, sending him blasting into the wall beside where Blaine stood.
Blaine craned his neck to the side as he mechanically turned around to stare at the Arcanine lodged into the wall like a fossil. He was shocked beyond belief, since when could Scyther's become such kicking machines.
This was naturally information Rex had come across only after starting his training with Scyther. He didn't know that he had such strength in his legs and therefore began to teach him every style and type of kick in his memory. He also had the system analyse for mistakes and correct them appropriately. And this was the result of all that training. A kicking, killing machine you never saw coming. And the funniest thing was, no one would expect a kicking Scyther or scizor. After all, why focus on its seemingly unassuming legs when it has two deadly weapons up top. And that is when they would regret their naïve thinking.
