Mercy Hall
Blood seeps around her brother like a mud puddle on a rainy day.
"You shouldn't have come," says Graysen, barely above a whisper. His words echo in her head - she's heard them before.
Leaning down, she grabs the keys off the human's belt then approaches her brother on shaky legs.
"You'd have done the same for me." She struggles to contain the images of a different time from flowing through her mind.
Her brother's death, she keeps seeing it replay over and over again. His release happens inside of the king's chambers. She chokes back a sob. They're nowhere near the area. Nor does she doesn't fancy the idea of going there, not now, not ever.
Focus, concentrate on the here and now of what one can alter instead of dwelling on the horrors of the past, she thinks, Don't stray from the path.
