Back then in the kitchen, Daniel helped Nancy out, which made her feel so sweet.
If only Chloe weren't here!
She could have spent more time with Daniel alone. Now she realized what a huge mistake she made to invite Chloe here.
"Try the winy beef, one of my specialties. Tell me if you love it." Nancy put some on Daniel's plate, looking at him expectantly.
Daniel took a bite.
"Do you like it?" Nancy couldn't wait to ask. She would be so glad if she could get his compliment.
But the next second, Daniel put some on Chloe's plate. "The flavor is not bad. You might try some as well."
Nancy got so jealous as Daniel thought about Chloe first. But she calmed down quickly, comforting herself that at least he liked her cooking.
Chloe accepted the food naturally, seeming used to be taken care of by Daniel. But as she swallowed the second one, she noticed something weird. Was she the only one eating?
She looked up at Daniel and Nancy. "Why don't you eat?"
Chloe tried other dishes, "I have to say that Nancy is so good at cooking. Whoever marries you will be very lucky."
In secret, Chloe hoped that one day she could cook something for her lover as well.
Nancy grinned, "Thank you, Chloe. I will also be so lucky if my boyfriend loves my cooking."
As she said that, Nancy couldn't help glancing at Daniel who always looked so indifferent and cold.
So she asked, "Daniel, do you like the beef?"
Daniel nodded perfunctorily, "Not bad." He was thinking about something else. When picturing having dinner with the one he loved, somehow Chloe's face showed up in his mind. Maybe because they had been living together recently.
At this moment, the knocking at the door broke the silence.
Surprised, Nancy stood up, "Please continue enjoying the meal. I'll go for a check."
Who would come to her as it was late?
The moment she opened the door, her pupils dilated in fear. Subconsciously, she wanted to close the door in a hurry, but the woman seemed to foresee it in advance and immediately stopped Nancy with her hand.
Nancy suppressed her anger and roared, "What are you doing here? You shouldn't come here!"
Guilty and anxious, the woman rubbed her hands carefully.
She flustered and explained, "Nancy, I have no choice but to come to you for help." she continued politely and firmly. "I have no money and you don't answer my phone. So I have to come here. You will help me, right? After all, I'm your mother."
Ask for money? Nancy's face darkened instantly. She turned around and looked inside the room. Noticing that no one came out or saw her, she walked out and gently closed the door.
She also took her handbag with her.
She said nothing and took out all cash from her wallet, throwing heavily at the woman who claimed to be her mother. The notes were flying and then scattered on the ground.
Nancy's mother felt like seeing her savior. Regardless of the humiliation from her own daughter, she squatted down hurriedly to gather the money like crazy.
"What happened?" Seeing that Nancy didn't come back for a long time, Daniel went out to have a look. Then he saw the woman was picking up the money stiffly.
Nervous, Nancy explained hurriedly, "She is my distant relative. Her family is in hospital and needs a lot of money. I gave her all my cash but she got so excited that her hand was trembling. Therefore all money dropped to the ground just now."
After saying that, Nancy hurried to help her mother pick up the money and whispered, "You'd better take this and leave now. Don't say anything!"
Of course her mother understood her meaning. She already got what she wanted and had no need to tell Daniel her identity.
"I'm sorry. My husband is ill seriously and needs a lot of money. Since she was young, Nancy has been taking care of us. Sorry to bother you and I'm leaving now."
Once she finished, she left quickly in case that Daniel should get suspicious.
Nancy looked at her mother's back and calmed herself down. She turned to Daniel with a smile, "Let's go back."
"What disease did he get?" Asked Daniel suddenly.
Nancy paused for a second. Then her smile got broader. "Hydrocephalus. He is receiving treatment in hospital now and I'm taking care of him too. Don't worry. He will be fine."
Daniel nodded and walked in without more questions.
During the dinner, Nancy went absentminded several times. Even when Chloe called her, she didn't seem to hear it.
"What's wrong with Nancy?" Asked Chloe in puzzlement, looking at Daniel.
Daniel cast a sidelong glance at her, seeming to suggest she had too many questions.
"Oh? What did you say, Chloe?" Nancy woke up from her thoughts, turning to Chloe.
Pointing at Nancy's plate, Chloe patiently explained, "Nancy, your plate has been empty for so long. Do you want more food?"
"Never mind. I'm full," answered Nancy, pushing the plate further on the table.
Although Chloe didn't know what happened just now, she could feel something wrong with Nancy.
On their way back, Chloe couldn't help looking at Daniel, hoping he could answer her question.
"Why are you looking at me?" Daniel leaned forward, asking indifferently.
"I just felt that there was something weird about Nancy. Do you know what happened?"
Daniel smiled, "If you feel bored and want to kill time, why don't you think about how to deal with the troublemaker at home?"
He was right. She still got a 'troublemaker' to deal with at home.
As soon as they came back, the 'troublemaker' ran towards Daniel happily, her voice so coquettish and too sweet. "Daniel, where did you go? Why don't you take me with you? I am so bored at home, being left alone."
With a frown, Daniel avoided her quickly until they kept a certain distance. Then he walked into the elevator, leaving insipid words, "It's none of your business."
Sasha snorted and pouted unhappily when she saw Chloe behind Daniel.
"Why did you come back with Daniel?" Asked Sasha. She wished that Chloe could disappear in the house right away.
Irritated by her impolite manners, Chloe looked down on Sasha arrogantly, "Just to be clear. We just canceled the engagement banquet, not the engagement, which means we are still engaged."
"So what? Engagement doesn't make you his wife!"
