章 15: Chapter 15 Will You Believe Me
The next morning, as Chloe woke up suffering the backache, the living room was empty and quiet.
But there were clean and tidy toiletries just near her head, so someone had come when she was fast asleep.
She remembered that Daniel used to have someone clean his house at six o'clock in the morning. Maybe they put these here for her.
After changing into the clean clothes slowly, she noticed it was ten o'clock am.
Daniel should be in the company now.
With her hands on the wheelchair, Chloe was in a daze.
"You ready? How about some breakfast?" Suddenly, there came Daniel's voice, as mellow as the cello.
Why was he still here?
Surprised by his appearance, she stared at him with her heart beating fast, "Shouldn't you…be in the company now? Why are you still here?"
Daniel was puzzled by her question. It was his house and he could decide where he wanted to stay. Besides, why was she looking so defensive with her hands covering her breast?
"Don't worry. I have no interest in young kids." Then he returned to the dining room.
Young kid? Did he just suggest she wasn't plumb enough? Chloe looked at him with some resentment. What a jerk!
"The doctor said you should have your plaster removed in a month."
Oh no! She should put up with the plaster for another month.
She wasn't in the mood for breakfast at all now.
"Hurry up. I will take you to the mall after breakfast." Urged Daniel.
Chloe took a quick look at Daniel who was swiftly tapping on the keyboard on his laptop.
She never expected to live here again, which made her uncomfortable.
But it didn't occur to her that something more uncomfortable was waiting ahead.
Daniel drove a new SUV so that she could get on or off the car easily on the wheelchair.
If anyone told her Daniel did this for her, she would laugh at this terrible joke.
But right now the SUV was parking right before her.
"Is…is it necessary to change your car?"
It was well-equipped and spacious inside. Daniel pushed her into the car easily.
Sitting on the driver's seat, Daniel answered casually, "It's necessary for at least one month. Besides, the garage isn't full. An SUV will be fine."
But Chloe was focusing on this new car and didn't pay much attention to him, so she just answered perfunctorily.
Later Daniel took her to a shopping mall.
"I don't know what you like. So feel free to choose for yourself." He pushed her wheelchair.
She wanted to refuse him at first, but as she remembered that he was still her creditor, she gritted her teeth and decided to go shopping mercilessly.
After all, this jerk even let her sleep on the sofa last night.
It was time for her to pay back his 'kindness'.
In the end, they had spent a lot of time here and bought plenty of things. Daniel never complained once and paid with his card directly, as if he wanted this as well.
When Chloe passed by a shop, she was stunned by the dreamlike decoration.
"Do you like it? Maybe we can get you a swing?" Daniel pointed at the swing she was drooling over.
In fact, Chloe bought it and put it right on the balcony before her rebirth.
But she was the only one who played on it. Daniel was too busy to even come here regularly.
While she was thinking, a man in casual clothes walked towards Daniel.
"What a coincidence." The man looked at Daniel. "I guess this is your wife, right?"
Hearing the 'wife', Chloe frowned and corrected him instantly, "I am not. The engagement has been canceled."
Embarrassed, Alex scratched his head and apologized, "I'm sorry. But why are you here together, for shopping?"
Clearly, it was too much for a couple who just canceled their engagement.
"I'm taking care of the patient." Daniel changed the topic of the conversation, "Did you get any information about that matter I told you last time?"
When talking about his work, Alex became more serious. His frowned, looking a little depressed, "Someone had carefully planned this accident beforehand. We only have the surveillance video on the scene and we don't know where he is now. Maybe he has already left."
"My people are also investigating it, but... " This result annoyed Daniel.
"Well, don't worry. We will continue working on this case. Contact us if you have more clues."
Then Alex left in a hurry since his pregnant wife was waiting for him.
Seeing Alex was caring about his pregnant wife and how sweet they looked, Chloe felt a little envious of their happiness.
She asked in a lonely voice, "Is he the police officer in charge of my case?"
"Yes."
Losing interest in shopping now, Chloe said nothing and wanted to go home for rest because she was tired.
Daniel drove her home in an instant.
"Do you believe me?"
Back home, sitting on the big sofa, Chloe suddenly asked.
Daniel was discussing with the maid about the decoration of Chloe's bedroom. As he heard what Chloe said, he came over and sat near her.
Through her defensive and unsure eyes, he saw a lonely and sad little girl.
"What happened? Seeing your sad face, I thought I have bullied you." Daniel tried to make a joke to cheer her up. But clearly, he wasn't good at it.
"Do you know who hired that man to hit me? I do." Chloe had the answer in her mind, but she didn't want to say it out.
Because she knew even if she said it directly, Daniel would not believe her.
Besides, it was only a guess and she had no evidence.
Chloe waved her hand, indicating that Daniel should leave her alone.
After a meaningful look at Chloe, he promised, "Trust me. I will find out the truth."
