A shiver went through him—Jaecar was like a lion on the savanna. He was planning on going back to wait for the other man, his prey, and yet he was concerned about Eli waiting in a car.
“Being by myself is what I do best, and I can’t wait for this to be over so I can go back to being alone.”
Hurt swamped his awareness, and Eli stared at Jaecar. What was going on? Jaecar’s face was blank, but the hurt…It continued to flood Eli’s chest and mind.
Looking away from Jaecar, he spotted the driver coming around the corner. “There he is.” For a second, their eyes met, then the man turn and ran.
“Who?” Jaecar followed his gaze, the hurt replaced by anger.
“The second man, he’s the one turning the corner…there.” The man was out of their sight
“Get in the car.” Jaecar tossed him his keys and took off running. Eli gaped. He’d never seen anyone run as fast as Jaecar did, not even Varg when he spotted Eli trying to escape from him.
