“So, awful day?” Jason asked.

“Yeah, pretty stinking dirty,” Howard said with a laugh. “That’s the nature of our business though.”

“It doesn’t have to be,” Jason said.

“Yes, it does. We’re a cleaning company,” Howard reminded him.

“Well, what can I do to make your night better?” Jason asked.

“Just sit and eat with me,” Howard said. “This is heaven. My body is not in motion, and my feet are just glad that they are clean and shoe free.”

Jason topped off their champagne flutes and began to eat as well. After a few minutes Howard thought, This is the type of comfortable silence that can only come from knowing someone well

“Would you like some more?” Jason asked a few minutes later, looking at Howard’s empty plate.

“No, I’m full, but you and Marjorie have just become my favorite people on Earth,” Howard answered.

“We weren’t there already?” Jason asked.

“Eh,” Howard said, and burst into a laugh. He was tired and he knew that he was probably about two inches from slap happy.
