One step. Another. Just one more. That last step placed him face to face with his mother. She smiled and looked down at her hand. Carlos raised his to join hers. As they touched, a small swatch of light floated out of the mirror and onto Carlos’s hand. The light felt so warm, so cozy. The light continued to surround his hand, until it formed the shape of another. Carlos gripped onto into and began to step back.
The further he went, more would appear from the mirror. First the hand, then an arm, until finally the vision of his mother was completely in front of him. The white light floated around her, starting from a large patch that covered most of her legs and feet and slowly reaching the top of her head before disappearing into nothingness.
Carlos was shaking a bit. Though he wasn’t scared, he still couldn’t comprehend what he was seeing.
“Do not worry, mi Carlitos, I am not here to hurt you.”
“I know that, Mami. I just, I just…”
