“So, how about that ride?” Eugenio asked, still looking into Carlos’s eyes.
“Pardon?”
“The horses? Going to ride?”
“Yeah, that would be great.”

“So, what exactly do you do in Austin?”
Carlos and Eugenio had taken a couple of the horses out for a ride after their initial encounter in the stables. They had begun talking a bit, getting to know each other while taking a look around the land.
“I was a reporter for one of the major networks. I was trying to work my way to become an anchor, or to possibly move up on a more national level.”
Eugenio whistled. “Wow, that sounds really impressive. Is that what’s waiting for you after you leave?”
Carlos didn’t know how to answer. He was still too embarrassed about what had happened and wasn’t ready to tell anyone who wasn’t a good friend at this point. There was something in the way Eugenio talked to him, the concern he had in his voice and the interest he showed, that somehow made Carlos feel as if he could trust him.
