I nodded.
He turned and walked away, expecting me to follow, not looking back.
I always remembered that first afternoon in the barn. Liam was as smooth in an empty stall as he was handling a horse. After, I watched him brush off the knees of his khakis and leave, the afternoon sun making his hair a golden halo. "Come find me later and we'll go again." He pointed to the groom's quarters.
After dinner I went back to the bunkhouse, set up sorta motel style on the west side of the property. My neck itched. I had to knock on the right door, and even if I did find the right one, I might have to ask his roomie where Liam was and see the guy’s face when I asked, knowing why I was asking.
Liam spared me that. He leaned at the end of the building, arms folded.
“Hey,” I said, all clever like. “I’m back.”
“So I see.” He put his back against the rough siding and angled his hips out.
Distracting. But nice.
