In seconds she was back with a glass of iced tea. It was the bomb, now I knew she was my kind of people. As we sat on her couch, she turned on the stereo with the remote control on the coffee table. Soon the unmistakable voice of Lady Day poured out of the speakers.

As we sat being audibly stimulated, she rambled on a bit about her day. Even though the topic was something I normally would have found boring, because it was her talking, I was all ears.

“I’m sorry if I am talking your ear off. It’s been a while since I invited anybody over to visit other than Katrina and Kareem. You met them at the club. My partner Paula and I recently ended our relationship.”

“How long have the two of you been broken up?”
