When we were locked up in the shack the women of that village would throw water on us until our clothes were soaked." 

Though Liao De did not say it explicitly, everyone understood why the women soaked these two mers with water. Even though they were too young to be taken to bed, those women who were feeding and giving them a place to stay must have thought that it was only right if they took a bit of advantage of these two mers.
